The worst sonic game on any platform, at any time.

Let's face it: Gimmicks have been around for a long time. But gimmicks rarely destroy a respectable game, and a respectable franchise. Sadly, this is one of those rare cases. This gimmicky translation of Sonic from 2D to 3D is one thing that only a blundering developer without any thought for the future could do. And that is precisely what Traveller's Tales has done.

The gameplay of Sonic has always been known as simple but effective, speedy but playable, and fun yet challenging. This translation of Sonic from 2D to 3D took the simplicity, speed, and fun and just threw it out the window. Gone are the bumpers, the multiple enemies, the speed, and the fun; all that's left is a game with a bad premise, some stupid birds who need rescuing (a bad gameplay mechanic in itself), and a train wreck of a game.

The gameplay is bad. Really, really, really bad. In the previous sonic games, you only needed one button. Now you need all three, which is an unneccesary complication. At least they could've made the sound better

The sound is all recycled from the previous games, and it doesn't fit at all with the game. The rings sound slightly worse, and the popping sound of an enemy doesn't fit with the way it is destroyed.

The background music is pretty good, but the boss battle music doesn't fit with the game; usually decent music should be accompanied with good graphics, but sadly, this is not the case.

The graphics just look awful. Sonic's blue back is all one color, and when he curls into a ball, he just looks like a blue superball. Sonic's running animation makes it appear that he isn't actually running, more like he's sliding on bars of soap shaped into shoes. The rings in the special stage don't actually move. How bad is that?

All the floors in the environment are basically checkerboards, the walls are all one color, the enemies look like purple beehives, the special stage is a badly drawn boardwalk with still-standing rings, and the main screen sonic looks like a 4th grader's drawing.

Playing this game for more than 2 minutes is enough to want to tear your hair out from frustration with the game's bad qualities, so suffice to say, the inherent value is nonexistent.

All in all, this is a horribly drawn, badly designed, hardly playable game.

Don't play this game.
