I want more top down pre-rendered background Rpg's. imagine a remake of final fantasy 7 with high res pre-rendered backgrounds  and replace the original character sprites with new HD models. its would be cheap to make (as apposed to remaking the entire game in 3-D) and would look soo good. tons of old school games could be re imagined in HD this way. Icewindale, planescape torment and many other games.

 if Dragon Age was you first rpg experiance I feel really sorry for you because Baldur's Gate is one of the best RPG's ever made for the PC hands down. IMO Baldur's Gate is better then most of the crap that is released now by Ameuters who create games for the sole purpose of making a quick buck, instead of also creating games in the spirit of gaming itself. Baldur's Gate came out in 1998 that was when Bioware and Black Isle had really great writers, artists, and game developers who created games not just to make money but to create great games because they themselves loved gaming, nothing like the crap my generation of greedy jackassy developers who release  linear, dumbed down, simplified crap because they are trying to please the little kid crowd now in all games. Honestly if you don'tlike the game just based off the graphics and the fact you die a lot you really will never get why the older rpg's were so much better, because your so used to playing games were they are made for people who can't learn stradegy and challange and have their hands held throughout the entire game.

I mean seriously Fallout 1 and Fallout 2? baldurs gate 1/2? dude these games were made for true RPG'ers they were way more complex then any of the crap they make now.

yeah I think the full screen feature is very good addition..

give me a break!

my first rpg experience was dragon age orgins.... thats the game i played to completion, although i played hack n slash n loot type rpgs like fable previously but never played after two missions. So getting overwhelming responses about these baldur series i thought about giving it a try. N frankly I threw up with baldur's gate 2, the graphics is terrible. But you know when I keep watching skyrim or witcher vids in youtube i always get this comments that nothing like baldur's gate though n I used to be like what the hell are these guys talking about. Luckily, baldur's gate enhanced ed came out n i hardened myself that no matter how worse its graphics is, I'll play to experience the full story and interestingly they improved the graphics to an extent to that of age of empires 2 which is the most played strategy game by me. So yeah its not that hard for me to play it now n i do love hearing to imoen say occasionally could you tell me a story about trollups and plug tails with a prolonged please sound in the end or how she loved stories by puff guts back home. BTW I somehow think that if puff gut looked like someone then it would be Kevin VanOrd n i love his voice

 @lordshifu i've played skyrim, oblivion, dragon age, witcher, etc.... And i can guarantee you. Baldur's Gate is the ultimate RPG experience when it comes to storytelling, depth and gameplay. i never played a game as complex and compelling as BG2. Fantastic characters, plot twists at every corner, endless possibilities and choices.

yeah, it's hard to get over the fact that the graphics are completely outdated... but if that is what's keeping you away from playing it, you are missing out.

lordshifu
lordshifu

 @ribas14 i aint missing out..... i'm in and is getting very much punished dying a lot of times.... I thought I'll be honest with the game and only use gold to revive the dead ones and not use saved games but the enemies are so numerous and always giving a tough fight!! Any thoughts you might share... I just dont get what 1d8 and 2d6 means though.... its how they define the stats of weapons and potions

lordshifu
lordshifu

Hey kevin is dark souls harder compared to baldur's..... i dont know.... i die too often so i thought?!

Kevin can you give me a little lore update regarding the tattoo on your left arm. Thanks :)

 @lordshifu OMG Left arm???? That's Kevin's RIGHT arm. And it is the Assassin's Creed logo if I'm not mistaken....

Highly not impressed.I thought this was going to be "enhanced" not spruced up a little then tossed out for money...

Simplythebest12
Simplythebest12

I do not see anything different compared to the old Baldurs Gate.

The graphics look like 90s ugly shit i thought they would have added a better game engine to this refurbishment

detlef

Wowza! This one took me back... so much time spend with BG 1&2. Hours spend designing characters. Thanks so much for this "now playing." Looking forward to next vid.

Only complaint would be Kevin's pronunciation of "shillelagh"... It's (shi-LAY-lee)

I thought "Enhanced edition" it was going to get some better graphics. Guess it was my imagination.

Bought this and it's great better than the original in almost every way.

I don't see much in the way of enhancement here. The graphics are higher resolution and widescreen...that seems to be about all. All you really seem to be getting for the $20 is the expansion the Black Pits expansion adventure. I don't really see how this is worth buying when I already have the original. What am I missing here? The version for iPad sounds like a good idea, though.

 @RoadStar1602

The orginal runs at 600 x 480 i think. 800 x 600 at most. The new version allows us to natively run it in HD. That way the game doesn't look so aged.

I've had the original Baldure's Gate wishlisted on GOG, DRM-free. I own and love Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition.

 @nate1222

 I found the GOG version had some graphic anomalies (not sure if this was true for all people) but I think this version maybe the way to go if you're interested in checking out BG. I love NWN Diamond Edition as well, I still play that all the time.

jhcho2

Does anybody know if i can still import my character from the old version?

nate1222
nate1222

 @jhcho2

 Damn good question.

jhcho2
jhcho2

 @nate1222 I poured hours and hours into the original BG franchise, up until Throne of Bhaal. My character was insurmountable. I would like to be able to play back my original character in this enhanced version. But then again, BG1 only goes to CL7. I wanna play my CL40 character on Shadows of Amn. So either way, I'm gonna hold off.

Anyone else remember the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games on PS2? Man those were some great games especially when playing co-op. Pretty much the only games of it's kind on the PS2 aside from the Champions of Norrath series. I heard that Black Isle Studios has reformed, so hopefully Dark Alliance 3 is coming in the future!

yostryk
yostryk

 @Gunmaster51 I had many, many fun filled hours playing 2 player co-op on Dark Alliance & it's sequel on PS2. People seem to hate on those games for some reason, but I've never understood why. I thought they were great, me & a buddy played them start-to-finish.

Gunmaster51

 @yostryk

 Haha yeah same here. Those games did a lot of right things for sure. Some of the best graphics on PS2, smooth gameplay and lots of customization options.

 @yostryk  @Gunmaster51 Because, above par for PS2 they may be.  THEY ARE NOT BALDUR'S GATE.

Take that noise elsewhere.

Poodlejumper
Poodlejumper

 @Gunmaster51  @yostryk I've played them. They're crap compared to what this game is.

This game has NOTHING to do with the PS2 game.

NOTHING.

Not a damn thing.

Poodlejumper
Poodlejumper

 @yostryk  @Gunmaster51 This article isn't about that game which has NOTHING to do with the original BG save the title.

If you go to a 5 star restaurant, you don't talk about a big mac.  No matter how good it is it's still a dang big mac.

Now if you play BG or BG2 then greaty but don't talk about the poor cousin.

yostryk
yostryk

 @Poodlejumper  @Gunmaster51 Yea I know they weren't in exactly the same vein as the original CRPGs, but they were still fun to play, and GOOD games. If it angers you so much that they had "Baldur's Gate" in the title, then you need more help than I can give you in the comments section of GameSpot.

Gunmaster51
Gunmaster51

 @Poodlejumper  @yostryk

 How about you relax? We all know they were spinoffs and not sequels. If you didn't like it, that's your choice. Doesn't give you the right to decide what is "Baldur's Gate". I've been into the Forgotten Realms media for years (books, games) and I thought the Dark Alliance games did a great job. The game has a 87 score on metacritic so obviously I'm not the only one. Stop being so narrow minded dude.

Besides the new intro, I see no difference between this and Tutu.  I appreciate the attempt to bring back BG, but it seems like almost no effort was put into trying to enhance the game for modern machines.  Unfortunately, I see no reason to purchase this vs the original with mods.

BG is brutal, but Kevin's attempt at it was comically bad lol

Why whyyy didn't they include idewind dale as well? it's definitely comparable to the bg series imo..

jhcho2
jhcho2

 @dainZ No it isn't. BG is by Bioware, Icewind Dale was by Black Isle. That's like comparing NWN2 with NWN1.

RavenXavier

 @jhcho2  @dainZ

 Icewind Dale 1&2 and BG 1&2 all run on the Infinity Engine. Black Isle and Bioware are made up laregly of the same people. When Black Isle closed half the employees joined and created Bioware. There would be NO Bioware without Black Isle.

Come on now guys....you should know this.

jhcho2
jhcho2 like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

 @RavenXavier  @dainZ

I think you got your facts wrong. Black Isle was an in-house developer arm of Interplay, who was then, the publisher of the Baldur's Gate series. Bioware already existed at that time long before Interplay went bust. Naturally, Black Isle supported Bioware during the development of BG. They then were tasked to handle Icewind Dale all by themselves. Interplay was having trouble during the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (ps2) period, and shut down Black Isle. The Black Isle guys then started up a company called Obsidian. Yes, the Obsidian that made NWN2, KOTOR 2, Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege 3.

Black Isle and Bioware are not the same group of people, and there's a pattern. Bioware always makes the first game of a good franchise. Black Isle/Obsidian makes the second, while good, but not as good.

Baldur's Gate - Bioware / Icewind Dale - Black Isle

KOTOR - Bioware / KOTOR 2 - Obsidian

NWN1 - Bioware / NWN2 - Obsidian

Not saying Black Isle wasn't once good. They made Fallout and Planescape Torment

It is very comparable. Which is better is up to debate.

The zooming in and out is neat, one of the side effects of running these games at contemporary resolutions is how tiny everything gets, good idea.

That was fun to watch. I enjoyed it. It makes me want to play Baldur's Gate again. For me personally, the convenience of a fully modded version with about 20 hours or so of new content is worthwhile. I am particularly happy they are releasing a Mac version that will be available on the Mac app store. :D

Yeah I think they are repackaging primarily to sell to the iPad owners. I don't see anything enhanced enough for a $20 purchase.
