Risen 2: Dark Waters Video Review

Very good game. It did not make a good first impression on me because of graphical problems but was quickly fixed within a week. Combat was a letdown in the beginning but got better as I gain better skills at handling a weapon. IMO this has the best combat in any of PB game. You can also use a pistol, shotgun, and a musket. PB games always start off slow then I later find myself having a difficult time turning off my pc to play this game. It is so satisfying to start off my character with nothing then become a master in later levels.

Looks pretty decent.  As a pirate lover I think I might go get this game tomorrow!

Could be a good little distraction for the right price :)

im downloading the demo, but by the sounds of it not likely to enjoy it, you would think if the first games combat was bad and many reviewers have poiinted this out then the company would look at the comments and go hmm maybe we should change this to a system that works o.O

Am I the only one who wishes there was a mouse sensitivity setting in the menu? Between that and the obnoxious camera (different than in Risen) - 25 minutes in and that camera is giving me quite the headache.

Also, anyone notice "Caldera" and "Mara" (Morrowind 3 anyone?). Try originality PB, at least within the rpg genre!

I just got my review of the game deleted because I said that most today's reviewers

are gay...can you believe that....Risen 2 is extraordinary RPG,by the way.... 

Disaster

I wish Piranha Bytes will have a bigger budget for their next game.I guess this is the best you can ask from a small team.I still like the game a lot but it could've been so much better.

Horrible combat !

combat looks horrid.... like not even fun but I'm down to give this a try.... my computer isn't the best though and I wanted to try the first one first....

interesting game ,something new finally 

15 hours into the game and enjoying it a lot, some really funny voice acting which i thought i would not find in this game :D combat is a bit of a snag against animals but its quite fun when you duel a blade wielder and ranged combat isn't bad at all with the crunchy sound effect and smoke particle effects.all in all im really happy with PB.

this game is really good, the only thing bad about it is compared to the other one is that you can't roll anymore(or at least i don't know how) and.....SPOILER ALERT.....the final boss is kinda bad and unchalleging compared to the other things you faced throughout the game, oh and the protagonist has more tones than in "Risen", but it is still not as good as the others, it is at least some fine progress(I really hope that Kevin VanOrd sees this comment and reply to it)

If combat in this was like in Age of Chivalry, Dark Messiah or Mount & Blade it would be amazing, think fencing with some British military on a burning, sinking, ship.

No. You know what? What if they made Mount & Blade, but you were a pirate instead. It would be amazing, sure it wouldn't have the depth and you wouldn't become king, but you could become a pirate king.

If you do quest in an order that the game doesn't predict, you can't continue. I'm sorry, but that's a really sad if a game does that. I would be extremely pissed knowing that I did things in the wrong order and can't procede, and you have to completely reply everthing.

I just finished the game today and i really enjoy it. You will need ?patience to play this game. This is not a "go there and do this" kind of game. Most quests you have to wander around figure out what to do, but the game always leaves enough clues so you do not get stuck.

And double barrel muskets are wayyy too over powered!

Certain elements look pretty archaic but the concept seems interesting.

Seems alright, I will pick it up eventually with a sale.

Real Gothic

I still don't get it why they removed dodging in Risen 2. Seeing you also don't have a shield you are pretty much defenceless against certain enemies. Many animals can just attack you while you block and you just can't jump back or to the side >.< 

The game is a lot of fun but the combat can be so frustrating cause its just not fair. In Risen 1 you atleast had the sense that you screwd up if you got into a spam attack from the enemy and they got to kill you that way. But in Risen 2 i just encountered a monster who's attacks i simply couldn't block, and for some reason he could hit me even though i was out of reach (not far out of reach but still far enough to miss me).

Wow, this looks horrible!  The animations during conversations, the stiff looking combat.... The same old "take that to this person and they will give you item x - then come back to me" mechanics. I was hoping for better but again.... wow

may try this out,looks fun but i have such a hugh backlog of games..

Love pirates, hunting for buried treasure, exploring islands, and sailing on old wind sail ships collecting booty. I have to try this one out. A must for me. Hope they patch the glitchs they talk about.

looks like alot of work was put into this game, disappointing that it was released now.

Piranha Bytes have always had some issues in their game but it doesn't matter to me. I have enjoyed Gothic 3 and Risen to the fullest and same I'm gonna do with this game. I believe in Piranha Bytes.   

I've completed the game by doing the quests in violently random orders.  Some quests did get glitchy, but they seem to have put in enough triggers, that once triggered, you will be able to finish the quest, albeit missing some plots along the way.

The combat becomes easy once your abilities are high enough.  With a blade around 6 and that powerful attack skill, I usually finish fights without getting harmed, because the skill will stun the foe.

The game had me laugh out loudly quite a few times.  Many of them are during missions where you possess someone, so if you chose the voodoo path, don't forget to chat to NPCs once you've voodooed someone.

I was so pumped for this game... after the review, I'm kind of over it...

Hey wait... If you complete quests out of order (at least out of the game's order) you take the risk of not progressing into the game? What then? Will you need to reload, or worse, restart the game from the begining?!

I remember when you streamed it , you where so mad at the combat. Glad the rest of the game turn out good enough. Awesome Review as always.

Am I the only one who thought this was an MMO w_w?

Wauw, the developers and publishers must've been crapping themselves knowing The Witcher 2 would release at around the same time
