Ratchet and Clank looks and plays great on a latest gen console
The game plays like a combination of 3rd person shooter and 3D platformer.You can target and shoot enemies and your weapons have a limited amount of ammo to encourage you to be accuarate with your shooting.You can jump straight up high and leap from side to side to dodge enemy gunfire and it works very well because the controls are very respsonsive.The platforming involves things such as being launched onto sections of high buildings or using a swingshot to swing across areas and sometimes you'll need to hover through the air sometimes to reach a platform and sometimes you'll slide across rails and will need to leap to different rails and dodge/jump over obsticles.
There's also gameplay elements that involve hang gliding,swimming underwater while dodging mines,solving puzzles(using Clank's ability to slow down time)and there's mini games that you'll need to do to hack through security locks.There's also shoot em up type sections where you'll use a starship(that looks small on the screen)and you'll need to shoot enemies and dodge obsticles.
You can upgrade your weapons and they will also automatically get upgraded if you use them often and your armor will get upgraded too.There is a variety of weapons you can use such as the combustor(which is your main weapon that can hold a lot of ammo and is the gun you'll begin with).You'll need to use an electrical weapon to destroy enemies who have shields.There's more advanced weapons such as nano swarmers and plasma beasts that attack enemies automatically for you and they'll do a lot of damage but they're in very limited supply.The most powerful weapon in the game is the alpha disrupter and it can inflict heavy damage but you're only allowed 5 shots from it.
Even though this game is easy at the start,towards the end of the game it can be quite challenging.Even with all the highest weapon and armor upgrades.
The graphics look very smooth,detailed and have a nice artstyle.The futuristic city environment looks great and I like how the skyscrapers look very tall and futuristic and when you're launched onto the air and onto sections of them you can feel as if you're amongst them.I like seeing the flying cars and I like how the rail sections give a 3D effect and how the rails are very high in the air,especially when you're in the futuristic city.
There is also prehistoric type worlds with giant dinosaur type creatures and you'll see things like palm trees and swamps to show it's a very warm climate.There is a snow/ice type world and a planet with a carnival type atmosphere and one of the levels is on an asteroid belt and you're surrounded by space and there's industrial environments and I like the industrial environment that has the yellowish colored sky and contains many metal mazes and places where fire can scorch you because it felt very dangerous.
The enemies can be a variety of robots and some of them can fly or look like pirates and some really big robots.
The cutscenes especially look very smooth and detailed and the cinematics do a good job of making the futuristic city and other sections of the game look life-like.
When you're travelling through space with your starship,you'll see colorful effects from the wormhole.When you're using Clank and are being assisted by the other little robots that help Clank,Clank and the robots have a greenish glow underneath them to show they are using some advanced power source.
The voice acting matches the personalities of Ratchet and Quark quite well and Clank's robotic voice suits him.The dialogue is funny without being too childish or too adult oriented.
This game is very fun and very playable and is presented in a very lovely way and it's variety is a goo thing and I think it deserves a score of at least 8 and maybe as much as a 9 and more than just a 7.5
