my very first RPG, idk if it was because of that or something else... but i kind'ove liked it.

I first recieved my N64 when a friend of my mom's gave it to my and my siblings. she gave us the ocorinal of time, mario 64, harvest moon 64, and quest 64. i became hooked on this partly because it was my first RPG ever and i really liked the gameplay. even though i have seen other RPG's and experienced the greatness of the FF world (and only partly of VII for somereason lol. gota remember to borrow that sometime) this game still stands out for me and i just wish i could have finished it.

STORY: the story is a basic fantasy story, involving an underdog like character haveing to save the world as i remember. a book of great importance has been stolen and your dad has gone looking for it. you decide to go looking for him and eventually save the world.

GAMEPLAY: the game has random encounters, like most RPG's. the game is also pretty easy on you. if you die you dont go to last save, just go back to the last inn you were at with no penalty except having to re-travel. the battle system is a bit strange from my knowlege of RPGS. idk, i could be wrong in saying that I really havent seen something exactly like this. you encounter an enemy and a field is set up around you for you to battle in. you can not leave the area unless you go up to the edge of the field and select exit. its turn based battle and when its your turn another smaller field appears around you. you may move anywhere in that field to set up your next attack, casting a spell or melee attacking the enemy. to melee you must move right in front of the enemy. the enemy's move in a similar manner.

spell casting has you pressing the C buttons in a # of directions to combine a certain # of elemental power(each has a corrisponding C button) to cast the spell. like for instance to cast a basic fire spell its the left C button. to cast a stronger fire spell its 2 left C bottons (when you get that spell anywho) when you get stronger you can press left C to use fire element, the up C to add water and that creates a different spell. you can combine and match to make different spells.

there is no persay experience. you gain elements(if i remember right as what they're called) and you use them to grow a certain element. as you gain lvl's in that element you learn more spells in that element. some spells i think require a lvl or 1 element and a certain lvl from another, but its been about 6-7 years so, cant remember. after a while i believe your hp and mp increases as well. i think it grows as you take hits, after each time you lvl any element, every time you heal??? i cant remember that either but it'll grow as you move through your journey, so doesnt matter that much...damn this is going to eat away at me all day!

there is no money system in the game...wait what?! thats right, no money. all items in town are given away and all other items are won in battle...though there isnt much items anyway. in town you can take healing items for free from the stores that have them. the catch is that you can only take 1 of each item at a time. once you use that item you can get another from the town.

SOUND

sound isn't too great. basic sound effects for the spells as i remember and the music was ok. this is the lowest aspect of the game

VALUE

i dont know how long that game was, it might be short or long, i believe you can get the time from another review, since my time would be wrong since if i played through it now id probably race through it, but the first time through it was slow. even slower since i had low gaming skills x.x

OVERALL

i dont agree with most scores on here. i enjoyed this game. though each person is entitled to his/her opinion and i geuss it was better to me due to my young age and ignourance.... either way the game is 9 years old soo...probably no ones going to see this review....or care about this game...oh well :D
