Very nice new show gamespot, congrats !!!

Silent Hill as P.T. was nothing more than a very effective horror walking sim, if that was supposed to be the start of an actual survival horror silent hill game, nobody knows.

RE on the other hand, as a franchise, has always been the survival horror one that has more focus on gameplay and interaction, on decision making, that makes it the polar opposite of SH in terms of classic survival horror game design, as SH games were heavily based on story and atmosphere, not on valuable gameplay.

This is why RE7 doesnt have much to do with P.T. aside from using a first person camera.

RE7 could never scare anyone as much as P.T. did imo, and P.T. could never be as fun, interesting, and engaging to actually play as RE7 or any classic RE game for that matter.

What P.T. started, is actually a continuation of what Amnesia did if anything, and RE7 is just following the old RE games in most of it while changing things to stand as a worthy spin-off, rather than evolution.

@gns: well it always depends what aspects one is talking about, what you say is true, I agree with it, generally they are simple affairs of walking and killing or taking the item.

The genius in them is how they combine with the main quests and narrative, how the characters act and coexist in the same world within the other quests and impact on them. Also the pacing and control of information is terrific.

TW1 for example is still one of the few RPGs that has quests that you follow them, you try to solve them, and then the events literally give no more clues to Geralt, so no matter how much you want to finish them you just cant, cause thats how the world works, its not all centered around your hero's desires, and so you must go do other stuff and watch the events unfold eventually, or even fail cause you didnt happen to come across the necessary clues or characters.

The specter dog quest in the first area, the Beast, is great with all of its background being in the relationships between the various town inhabitants and their own agendas, making you take sides on various occasions along the way.

The crime investigation in Wizyma is excellent too, allowing you to accuse or trust whoever you want, and having zero hand holding and very very realistic chances of failing, and you know whats the best thing? if you fail you dont ever find out that you did, just like it makes sense it would happen, you'd have to replay the game and actually solve the thing properly. And again, it fits perfectly with the other side quests and narrative, its part of an ecosystem not a separate gamey mission thing.

With taking sides after 15 hours I suppose you mean the quests related to the scoiatel vs flaming rose, but those are just the most explicit side quests and decisions you can take, all the rest of the game's side quests except for the trash witcher work (fetch quests) is just as good, and I'd say way better, cause they arent thought to fit any side or faction.

If you have some time I suggest you replay the game one day and analyze it to the most intricate level, and you'll see how many fantastic things it has in its quest design 90% of RPGs dont even do. Even TW3 only has a few quests that can match some of TW1's ones.

@Pooya1881: Well its all subjective but there are some things TW1's side quests achieve that even TW3 doesnt, and I completely disagree that TW1 can't beat DAO, especially in side quest design.

Your point about the open worlds is likely correct, thats the wild card "feature" that made Inquisition what it was, and that made TW3 attractive or worth looking for Bioware now.

Well this are great news if it ends up reflected in the final game.

However, The Witcher 1 from 2007 already had better sidequests than ME and DAO, and TW2 did as well, so while what they're saying is all great and stuff I can't stop wondering why they even got to Inquisition in the first place?

What TW3 did is not new at all, even though it is more popular than ever before.

@mattsaroni24: Maybe you just don't like survival horror as much as action shooters, but a lot of people do like it.

RE7 has been one of the most streamed and played games in Twitch since release, and its one of the most speedran games at the moment as well.

It makes perfect sense too, since the most replayable games of the franchise are 1 2 and 3, there are no shortage of people out there with over 200 playthroughs of RE2 for example.

Still feeling the ripples of RE6.

Of course RE6 was going to sell despite the terrible reviews and reception overall, people bought the game coming from 5, which also sold a lot. Now RE7 comes from RE6, this is that game's failure.

Perhaps only with REmake 2 and RE8 the excellence of RE7 will turn into sales.

Thanks for the review, it was very informative.

Sounds excellent, and even if it wasn't a good game at all, after 4 5 and 6 this existing is a dream come true.

@videogameninja: It's surprising isnt it? I mean, how young could they be? twenty something years old? thats probably the average age of the majority of the old REs fanbase.

We're talking about 1996 here, its fairly recent, AND its about the most famous horror game franchise in history, made in the company they work at...

Perhaps it's just a few guys that dont like horror games and that's simply it.
