I think they only went the casual route this gen to get more people involved in gaming.
With all those recent "gaming is dead" or "gaming will be a thing of the past by 2015" articles at mainstream places like yahoo, they figured that they needed to expand the market.
So, this gen, Nintendo will pull the casual route, hope to gain a wide variety of people for the next console, which they add a little more hardcore elements to it. They do that progressively every generation until the world is taken over by gaming. Its also great for little kids to eventually grow into more hardcore gaming.
This may have been of the topic of the thread, but I believe its why they have so many sales. Because they wanted to get the casuals, they have made sure video gaming is more future proof.
Honestly, what does nintendo have besides gaming.
Sony has their huge Movie development studios (Spiderman for example) and Microsoft has their Operating systems, but what does Nintendo offer besides gaming?
