I'm expecting great level design and a bland art style.

I'm hoping they get creative with the art style. The kind of creativity we saw in the "Starry Night" inspired levels.

Oh man, I really have no idea what to expect. Usually I have a pretty good idea on what to expect from these things, but this time around, I'm really not sure. Nintendo are in a new position right now. They have bolstered their development team (merging console and handheld developers) and are on a roll. At the same time, I don't know if they can really keep the momentum for a big game every 1-2 months. Furthermore, whether they would want to save any big surprises for E3, or if they just blow their reveals now, and get more hands on for E3. Anything is possible, which makes for a pretty exciting Direct!

I think the next revision or price drop is at the end of the year minimum (my actual guess is 2019). So if you're willing to wait that long, then maybe. But it's risky and maybe a waste of time.

I personally would recommend just waiting until the rumoured January Nintendo Direct and making your decision after that.

Glad you're enjoying it. I got it for Christmas and I'm currently at Chapter 5. I'm enjoying the story and structure of the game. Overall, it's a great game but held back by its UI. Personally I prefer Xenoblade Chronicles X (X had better exploration and combat, whereas XBC2 has better story).

I sent in my 3DS. It was a launch 3DS and had those annoying vertical line scratches. They fixed it free of charge.

I actually sent the 3DS in twice, the second time was because when I got it back the first time, the shoulder button was broken on arrival. So they repaired that free of charge too.

Pretty sure mine was within the warranty period (first year) but I can't really remember. Overall, they were nice to deal with.

Mario Kart always sells well. If Nintendo of America were smart, they would have a deal where they bundle the Switch with Mario Kart. Alas, they don't seem to care about money...

Eh, I'm sure they could do they another time when they need to bolster sales. Seems to be going fine without the emergency button yet.

Forgot one. They reallllllly need to revamp the eShop. It's so....unorganized. There is too much quality software that is getting overlooked because people can't find it. Even the Wii eShop was categorized. I know they have to be working on this. I'm sure it's not lost on them.

Agreed. I'd even like to do simple things like search for "local multiplayer games" only.

Eh. Kinda looks ugly. This is one of my most anticipated game this year, so I was looking forward to seeing what it'd look like.

I was hoping for something more jolly, but instead they went for something more gritty. Which doesn't really suit the game. I think it's the green spray they used. Everything else about it looks pretty cool though. Love the compass around the stick and the right gold trigger.

No, and it's a silly argument.

I've seen this argument a lot over the years for a lot of different types of games. Here are some examples:

______ isn't a game because it doesn't have graphics (text adventures).

______ isn't a game because it doesn't have levels/maps/level design.

______ isn't a game because it doesn't have shooting (puzzle games).

______ isn't a game because there are no puzzles or shooting (walking simulators).

In the end, this always boils down to "_______ games aren't games because I personally don't enjoy them", but whether or not any one individual enjoys a particular type of game isn't what makes it a game or not. Hell, even if you want to get semantic if you do -something- to influence images on a screen (even if those images are just of words), then it's a video game, by definition. Different types of video games are designed to appeal to different types of experiences. "Walking simulators" that don't have puzzle elements are still interactive. I decide when and where I go. Granted, there may be only one path that progresses the game but I have control over when that happens. If I want to screw around and walk around in circles for an hour without progressing the game, I can because I have agency just like you can choose to drive a scooter around town for hours in GTA5 instead of participating in any of the activities the game has to offer. Even if there's no "failure condition" and the story path is ultimately completely linear, exploration is still an element of gameplay (and a big one in open world games like Skyrim or Witcher). You can argue that a game have limited or virtually non-existent gameplay, but it's still a game.

Our definition of what a game is should be something that we are willing to expand, not something we should be restricting based on notions like "but it's not like the games I have played before" because that antithetical to innovation. It astonishes me how many of the gamers complain about how every new AAA game is only incrementally different from the 20 installments in the series that came before it are often the same gamers who complain when indie companies come out with titles like "Superhot", "Papers, Please", "Firewatch", "VA-11 HALL-A Cyberpunk Bartender", or "Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale".

You don't have to like every game that comes out. Hell, I don't like every type of game that comes out. There are entire genres I have no interest in (visual novels, for instance, have little to no appeal for me with only very rare exceptions) but for every indie dev who has success trying something different, even if it's something that you hate, that emboldens more indie devs to try more different approaches to game design and guess what? You might like the -next- thing that some new developer tries.

Or, we can crap on every indie dev that does something outside of some arbitrary, narrow, predetermined definition of what we think a game -should- be. But if you do that, don't come crying to me when you are sick of playing Call of Duty XXXXXXXXVIII.

-Byshop

Firstly, it seems like you're taking the OPs position as an attack on video games, when to me, it seems far from it. The OP has acknowledged the quality of these "games", but simply isn't happy with the use of the term "game". There is nothing wrong with this, and is a valid question to bring up. We have a language for a reason - it helps us articulate, converse and accurately & critically evaluate products or art.

To your post, of relevance, is this statement: "if you do -something- to influence images on a screen (even if those images are just of words), then it's a video game, by definition." - which isn't a good definition of a video game. There are clear examples of things that we normally wouldn't consider a video game that would be applicable under your definition (e.g Photoshop or video editors).

Personally I think this is an interesting question, and a question worth discussing. However, I do think it's also a very hard question to answer!

Another one is Mario Maker. I hope they release it for Switch, packed in with a stylus.
