@uchihasilver: IMHO I think this is Microsoft's long game at work here.
Microsoft and Sony can both see that the tech world is moving too fast to keep creating consoles. The S was designed to appease casuals and families that don't want to break the bank. Project Scorpio is the next step towards moving their player base to pc gaming. I wouldn't be surprised if Scorpio boasted "interchangeable parts" or XBOX games allow you to "adjust graphics levels". With the switch to x86 architecture the only thing different from consoles and the PC is software exclusivity.
You can also see Microsoft's plan at work in the fact that XBOX Live is now on every platform. They know their time with consoles is limited and are starting to transition away from hardware and get solely into the software game.
The " buy it once for XBOX and pc" is a smart move because it allows the user base to transition over to pc gaming now or to buy the Scorpio and postpone your transition for a couple more years.
Microsoft is in a better position here because unlike Sony, the majority of gamers will be gaming on windows. Sony's gamers will have to eventually switch to windows and PSN will be an application that runs on Windows.
I agree that it will take some time but I don't think it's going to take 5-6 years. Both consoles have moved to pretty standard hardware that is widely used and has been in use in the past. They just need to optimize their sdks.
The days of proprietary hardware are over. We should see some more impressive stuff in the next 2 years.
I agree. Gamespot needs more exclusives instead of searching sites like polygon. I will admit though that they have stepped up their game on having devs in their video streams.
