Sony actually giving the Vita some stage time other than a two-minute sizzle reel.

Killzone Mercs and Freedom wars. You're good for a long haul of console like gaming.

Woah, this is the first time in a long while that I've seen someone giving FW a mention (not just in this thread).

Seriously, every Vita owner should know this game by now. It all falls back to Sony, huh?

You are right about the localitazions.. I've never seen so much RPG's being localized in a row like they are doing on PSVita.. but for people who wants to play western games (western RPG's too), there is nothing on the horizon for the PSVita.. I wonder.. can't this machine run the first Mass Effect? Or even some decent port of that game? Or games in that level? Those are the kind of game I expected to see on this generation of Sony's handheld.. or even games on the real level of a PS2... like they did with Final Fantasy X/X2.. If this machine can run games like that, why we are not seeing new games on that level? This is a vicious circle.. Sony doesn't propperly support the handheld because it doesn't sell the amount they wanted.. and people doesn't buy the PSVita because there aren't much games that you can only play on the handheld.. And if you are going to have the same game on a console or even on your cellphone (and paying less in this last case).. why buy a PSVita???

At least I will take your advice and take a look at Freedom Wars... tnx man

Very true. Ubisoft gave the Vita an exclusive (not anymore though) Assassins's Creed game and found success with it (also helps that there was a bundle). Black Ops Declassified had mix reviews, but I think it did well too (had a bundle too). I think there's this chicken-egg situation with the Vita needing more system seller games while the developers don't want to take risks on the platform (unless Sony put out some dough to make it possible). What's stopping them to make games on it? I guess it's a moot point now that the PS4 is here.

I'm not familiar with the scale of the Mass Effect games, but we're talking about a handheld with games like Killzone: Mercenary and Uncharted Golden Abyss (and even Borderlands!), so it entirely depends how much time developers are willing to invest on the Vita.

So yeah, get Killzone: Mercenary if you haven't yet! It really shows what the Vita is truly capable of.

I still don't understand what kind of strategy Sony has with the PSVita.

They created a great piece of hardware and just abandoned it. Now we just see ports or cellphone kind of games released to the platform. Of course there are a few good games here and there being released, but most of them are japanese RPG's, and amongst them, a lot are sequels.

That's pretty much their strategy now.

Sony must knew that they had effectively carved a niche for those who likes the handheld's current output (that is, Japanese games and the appeal of portability for console ports and indies). See why a lot of games are getting localized for the Vita? They knew that the audience buys these games. Keep the current user base happy, and they will reward you in return.

It sure won't move Vita units compared to the bigger games, but at least Sony won't be bleeding money instead.

At the moment, Sony's efforts are concentrated on the PS4, which makes sense. They would want those 20 million+ people who bought the console happy, so you'll see all the blockbuster titles there. That and the fact that western support for handhelds aren't great to begin with, so it's best to keep your expectations in check. I think that the whole 'console experience on the go' thing is already covered with the remote play feature (which is obviously different from an actual handheld game like Killzone: Mercenary, but still technically true).

Sony has done nothing to really support the platform. There is no great release to the platform in the horizon, and they are only marketing it as a PS4 acessory.

This isn't completely true. For a recent example, how else are we going to get RE: Revelations 2 on the handheld (the Vita didn't even get the first one)? How about Borderlands 2 and Minecraft last year? Ports, sure, but I'd take that over nothing. They're very supportive towards indie games, so there's that.

But I do agree that Sony (particularly SCEA) should put more faith on the Vita and its games:

As an example, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (RPG) is a SCE game that will be released next Tuesday, but they announced it on a very short notice (only two weeks before launch date; and note that the last time it was mentioned on the PS Blog was the localization announcement together with Soul Sacrifice Delta and Freedom Wars last year), and releasing it on a very packed month with all the bigger titles coming out like Type-0 HD and Bloodborne. Vita fans are very vocal about their physical carts, but this one is only a digital release (though surprisingly cheap which somewhat softens the blow).

While Sony could do better, I wouldn't worry about the Vita's future just yet with more exclusive software coming out for it, like Tokyo Xanadu (Falcom) and Ray Gigant (Bandai Namco and Experience Inc. The latter made Demon Gaze and the upcoming Operation Abyss).

And oh! If you want a Vita exclusive game with high production values and great gameplay, you should look into Freedom Wars. The online community is still active too, so finding someone to play with won't be an issue.
