@zaxrider @shuwar PS2 had backward compatibility. PS3 too (earlier versions). But then, somebody realized they could actually make profit on selling older games (instead of letting you play games you own for free on new hardware), for instance via HD re-editions, or via 'generation-transfer' in the future. So, in my opinion, that's just another way to milk us.
@West123 Yeah, but every current-gen owner (probably) owns some pretty good collection of games. The possibility of playing them on the next gen would be much appreciated. On the other hand, sticking with an old console to play a few titles isn't so good.
@zaxrider Yes and no. When you buy a game for PC you know that you could play it even if buy a new computer. You will also have no problems playing older games on your new PC. Besides, I think this upgrades refer to digital versions only. So no description of platform on boxes. No physical product. It's just a license to play, so why not transfer it for free, if you already paid for it...? Edit: Oh, and we're talking about the same platform (but different generations), PS and Xbox owners are different, but PS3 and PS4 not.
DLC, online passes, future DRM plans - all force us to pay several times for the same product. And now we have this - for a 'not substantial fee' you got the right to play your own games on the next gen. Isn't that great...? I prefer standard backward compatibility - I think this could really encourage people to buy next-gen early, contrary to this 'fantastically gamer focused' ideas...
@barleybosh @shuwar I don't get that, either xD I just wonder how is it gonna work and what is gonna prevent players from actually completing a game within those 24h. P.S. I don't play Eddy (not Eddie), even though I actually do know how to do it without mashing buttons. He's cheap ;)
'within 24h after you first launch the game' - most games are 5-10h long so they can be finished in given time, then returned. Or am I missing something?
@blackace The thing is that the first two games kinda suck... But Saints Row the 3rd - now that's a totally different story. I love it and prefer it way more than for instance GTA4.
