@Keithy211 Surveys on any large population are based around a sample. It is usually impractical to contact the entire subject base (though not so much in a medium like this). As long as the sample size is large enough based on the total population size, then the result can be considered statistically valid.
It's also very possible that there were no surveys though and this data was simply gathered through online connections and querying the stored save games.
Interesting statistics. They aren't all that surprising though. There is distinction between games where you simply control the character and guide them to their next encounter (marcus fenix, master chief) and games where you ARE the character and choose your encounters (shepherd). In a game based around choice like mass effect (how to fight, where to go, what to say, whether to be bad or good), players will often look to supplant the character with a basic version of themselves. It is unsurprising then that most players would have chosen the same gender as themselves while making their character. Im curious what percentage of mass effect players are actually female though. Id be interested to know if there are more female players playing as male or if there are more male players playing as female.

this supposed mind set is as ludicrous and irrelevant to gaming as it is to any other recreational activity. You could replace the word "gaming" with "soccer", "baking", or "smoking cigarettes" and this article would make the same amount of sense while passing the buck as effectively.

If you truly cared about not conforming to popular thought, then you would value the thoughts and the opinions of others as individual beliefs. Based on your continued habit of glossing over and not acknowledging the arguments of others, I put it to you that you aren't against conformist behavior you are only against thought that doesn't conform with your own.

"There's more to being a human being that's what's between your legs" You say that, but yet you have already said that you REFUSE to play as any character with a certain arrangement between their legs. Isn't there more to them than that by your own argument? You continually bring up how men are being Narrow minded and lead like sheep, yet you seem to be the only one who has a problem with this distinction. You've narrowed your view to ONLY playing female characters whereas most of us will like or dislike playing as a character based purely on their own merits (not a face value judgement on gender). If you cant relate to a male character then that is a problem with your behavior, not with the industry. If I said I couldn't relate to anybody who isn't latino, would it suddenly become wrong for any developer to cast a character as something different?
Are women under represented in the gaming industry? yes. But its attitudes like yours that refuse to acknowledge and discuss the arguments of others and instead continue to spout your vitriol with ever increasing conviction that issues like this cant be discussed and brought to a solution
