@netter99 as an avid player of planetside 2, I'd politely disagree. EVERY weapon, specialization and trick in the game is purchasable with in game currency. The only items that aren't purchasable with ingame currency are cosmetics such as camo and decals. Extra trime or money put in opens up more (but not neccisarily more powerful) options to the player.

looked great... right up until the combat started....

Disappointing. The flashy QTE laden canned mini cut scenes could have been cool as special moves, but every kill? EVERY KILL???. having control yanked away from the player and seeing the exact same set of (albeit intricate) kill animations several times over in a single fight will begin to grind very quickly I think.

Lets hope Im wrong.

This is an opinion piece, a perfectly valid form of journalism. The Xbox presentation left Mr Walton underwhelmed and he is entitled to share his thoughts on it. Whether you want to agree, disagree of even read his views in the first place is up to you. If you thought that the presentation was the most exciting thing you've seen in years, that is also a perfectly valid opinion and you are entitled to share it (in fact I encourage you to do so).

Having an opinion does not make you biased. It makes you human.

I have to admit, after COD having left a bad taste in my mouth for the past couple of years, this trailer seemed pretty interesting. Looked like a more a engaging story in an interesting setting rather than a "look how cool military hardware is!" showcase.

Then the dramatic music and explosions started......

Dont get me wrong, Im all for having action in an action game, but there are only so many times that we can "just barely" escape from an exploding building and still have it be exciting.

I can agree with that (although his calculations of 30% being "core" are somewhat questionable...). I think the problem with characters goes deeper than "they are all male" though. changing a poorly written, un-relateable and un-engaging male character to the other sex will only result in a poorly written, un-relateable and un-engaging female charater. Interesting character design goes deeper than "lets make her female and arabic".

Having said that though; I'm all for more diversity in games and moving away from the standard issue tropes and cliches. That is as long as it isn't used as a gimmick. I find it more insulting having the one "token black guy" crow barred in than if there were no dark skinned people at all in a game. If you write a genuinely likeable and interesting character; people wont care what race/gender/species they are. these distinctions are just a part of the greater narrative tools you should be using to craft your characters, not the focus.
