Your motherboard probarbly can't handle AM2+ processors so phenoms are out of the question, the 5000+ should play most games maxed out expect crysis, well my 4200+ did anyway. AMD is not the way to go, Intel have a massive lead over AMD in the CPU market.

I'm not getting into an argument with you because I know that many people are looking at you thinking your an idiot, listen the 4000 series is DESIGNED TO IDLE HOT 100% of all 4000 series cards do this and do far unless your a jackass trying to overclock it to 5Ghz core clock or something then you will have no problems what so ever, read up on something before you speak. The ATI fanfix is not required and is mearly for people who want to idle cooler, especially the people who have single slot cards who exhaust the hot air into their case, if you have the dual slot which exhausts the hot air outside your case no problem.

Yes it should handle it but your PSU is coming close to its maximum output, I strongly suggest upgrading to maybe a 500/600W I know you may not need it but it is not good to have your PSU running at near 100% of its capacity.

ATi drivers suck, just so you know. My friends 4870 runs at 75C idle lmao! Have to mess around with fanfix and all that dumb stuff....rather pathetic.jmnderson69

Well done, ATI cards are designed to idle very hot this is not a design flaw or a broken card, it is to keep noise to a minimum. GPU's unlike CPU's are designed to handle temperatures in excess of 120/130 degrees however my 4870 never reaches over 85 on load, so 75 idle to 85 load I call that pretty good. Typical nvidia fanboy.

I have a friend who has the same CPU and GPU in a Dell XPS M1530 with 3GB RAM, it runs it, not great but yes it runs it. Remember that the mobile 8600GT isn't as powerful as its desktop counterpart, if you want play most games on high look at a 8700 or 8800.

I have been a ATI Radeon freak for some time now. I dont even pay attention to what Nvidia is doing. Recently I bought a laptop that had an Nvidia card on it and it isnt much of a good product due to malfunctioning and shutting down, but with all the hype around the new Nvidia cards it's tempting to switch up my custom gaming rig to an Nvidia card. I currently have the ATI Radeon HD 3870. It runs all of my games pretty smooth but I know there's ALWAYS something better. I'd just like to know how everyone else feels about the rivalry between ATI and Nvidia and if it's worth my time thinking that they will make a product that will without a shadow of a doubt be better than Nvidia.Adonis71806

1. You need to start looking at what both companies are doing, fast

2. Currently there is NO hype around nvidia, the new ATI cards are all the hype at the moment especially the 4870X2 (beats the GTX 280 all ends up buy a large margin for only another £30 more)

3. A 3870 should run all games except crysis maxed out, if your one of those people who upgrade your card to play crysis for about 12 hours one day then never for the rest of the year go ahead.

4. Linking in with (2) ATI currently have the lead in the best video card 4870X2 beats any product nvidia have, time for nvidia to start making good cards at competative prices much like the great priced 4850.

how about adventure games or rpg?is there any game that i can play?hyper_gattack82

The phrase "Mobile Intel Graphic Media Accelerator" translates into English as "This isn't designed for gaming"

Any game what people class as decent will not run, well I lie, it will run at about 5 FPS.

Crysis, nope

No modern FPS game will run but you should be able to play Counter Strike Source.

Wait for the 4870X2 to come down a little more then get one of those, they are currently the best card on the market better than the 9800GTX2 and the GTX 280. Don't go throwing ATI cards out of the window they are priced very competitivly and without ATI nvidia would price their cards at something ridiciolous.

CPU is ok if you are willing to overclock it a little, what mhz memory? What 600W PSU GENERIC??? What motherboard, besides get a p35 or p45 nvidia suck at chipsets, hard drive is fine, what cooler, 8800GT is OK for now but will become out dated in a year or so.
