No, it's not. No other gaming platform compares.

Lionheart08

we really need to start comparing systems or platforms,

IOS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Steam.

PC includes all open systems and all platforms compatible with those systems... its a bit ridiculous

its a word people need to get over it. The only poor portrayal of black people in this game is more likely they seem to be illeterate and stupid

If I were MS this is the type of news I wouldnt want making headlines. Most people look for ways to block adverts, not for better ways to get more adverts :?II_Seraphim_II
Advertisements really aren't that bad, they are good for letting you know of things you didn't know about. The problem is when the advertisements aren't useful to you. I'm not saying advertisements are good, but if they find a way to only show me things I care about then it won't be so bad as it is now.

i doubt it.

NFJSupreme

Then why would Ubisoft recommend 8 Core AMD CPU's and Intel i7's for if the game wasn't optimized to take advantage of extra cores/threads?

we will see but personal experience tells me I'll be fine and wont see any big performance hit at all.

personal experience? This is the first time a company has called for 8 fast cores for threaded optimization... logic dictates you haven't had any personal experience with this scenario.

This is like asking what PS4 and Xbox One supporters are going to be called.

They're still Lems and Cows.

(Steam Machines Supporters will be called Hermits.)

LegatoSkyheart

Horse shit. That is like saying XBox supporters are Hermits because Microsoft makes the OS. If it is a standalone console, then its fanbase could reach out beyond Hermits. It is what it is. It's a lame assertion to think that PC gamers are going to get lumped in with a console gamers just because Valve is making it.

Can I hack this box? Run another OS? Change the hardware? Install my own software? Use it to build a robot?

Sure.

straight from thesteam machine faq.

It's just a Valve made PC that comes preinstalled with thier OS, but can be easily changed to a Windows Powered PC.

your realize that phones could be considered PC's with this type of definition, and something tells me x86 with xone/ps4 might be easy to get linux on them along with one coming with windows 8 basically...

At the end of the day these are all types of PC's, and custom built PC's are more interchanble, but steam os will be a platform designd on a system and what you can run will be dfined by that platform.

There is a huge difference with custom built systems and laptops, there is a huge difference between tablets, there is a huge difference between the way windows and linux works, there is huge difference with android and steamos middleware platforms. Yet some how all these different types of systems are lopped up into one system type, "PC" and exclude 2 systems because they are closed..

there is a reason why people here try to ignore the PC in console arguments and its not a direct comparisan to another system. Its like comparing an honda accord to every vehicle ever made with no restrictions. Don't like the price by a scooter? Don't like the features buy luxury sedan? Don't like the gas mileage buy a civic?

I'm looking forward to a Kinect football game that actually works. Also, the PC version will have much more promise than the XB1 version, since it can be coupled with the Oculus Rift for complete gaming immersion :D

I can see this only working in a fully padded room

i7 Quad Cores are hyperthreaded for an effective 8 cores.

So, technically, i7s are Octo-Cores. Technically. Well, not really, but sort of.

Kinda of.

Netherscourge
they are 8 cores if your running a single application, or 4 applications with 2 threads each, they are 4 cores if your running 8 applications.

Your hands are symmetrical. How is a symmetrical controller not ergonomic?

RoslindaleOne

The next time you hold a controller, take a note where your thumbs would naturally rest.

Exactly.

the triggers were complete crap on ps3, but if you put your index finger on r1, and middle finger on r2, the stick placement starts making more sense.

The 360 was designed to tap the bumpers while resting your index finger on the trigger. It kind of changes the thumbs position to be more forward. It makes it more natural to go from the lower right analong to the buttons. Although when some games require more usage of the tirggers, and bumbers on 360, it gets pretty awckward.

the dual shock on the other hand tries to cripple your fingers, and many games triangle, because it kind of forces you to hold it funny with both thumbs down and two fingers up top on the r/l buttons. Its easier to make better use of the top buttons but the normal buttons start feeling a bit awkward.

Also the grip tends to feel more loose, because I'm only using the ring/pinky for the grip. The assymetrical design allows a more firm grip in one hand, but it make it harder to simultaneously use left trigger and the left bumper.

There are small differences, but if only someone could make custom sized controllers for different peoples hands, it would easily be the best way to go.
