starwarsjunky provoked me against mgs if i hadnt played the previous series which is quite true..ive just played about half of snake eater..and also about uncharted 2-don't u think i need to get uncharted 1 first??GOW is an excellent suggestion, and i think i'll surely go for it, thanks to both you guys.Armored_
if you're not getting it just 'cause you didnt play the first 3, then you're missing out. there is a plot on MGS4, sure there will be lots and lots of references, but it's not a continuation in the sense that all past mgs games didnt end in cliffhangers. so there's an individual story, but characters are already familiar. of course, that doesn't mean you won't be able to understand the story. there will be back-tracking. lots of cutscenes. unless you only watch movies like transformers, you will understand the plot. you just have to watch the cutscenes and not skip it. put on subtitles so you won't miss out.
you just have to know that Snake is a clone from Big Boss (the one in Snake Eater). and Liquid, the antagonist is also a clone. and Big Mama is their mom :D. Otacon is your sidekick. Raiden is the guy from MGS2 where alot (and i mean alot) of fanboys were so angry about. lol. basically everyone thought they were playing Snake until the guy takes off his mask and voila! it's Raiden lmao. Meryl was the subordinate of Snake. Mei Ling(sp?) has always been the hot chinese girl on the receiver. lmao. Solidus is the 3rd clone of Big Boss. FOxhound was the elite unit Snake was in in MGS1. Naomi was part of Foxhound. Vamp was in MGS2(?).
oh and The Patriots were the people who pull the strings. you know, like how businessmen control congressmen. :D
same as Uncharted 2. different story, familiar characters.
