You know, I honestly HATE Renegades of Funk with ever fiber of my being. I consider that **** to be in the same class of music as "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred or that "We're an American Band" song.
Look...I don't ****ing want to listen to a song that's all about how awesome the band is. Don't ****ing tell me that you're gonna come to my town and help me party down. If they were really gonna do it, they wouldn't have to make a ****ing song about it.
Likewise, you can listen to "Renegades of Funk", and Rage certainly talks a lot about how they're the renegdes of funk. But do they EVER say one ****ing thing in that song that actually makes me think, "damn, these guys are the renegades of funk"?
No. I hear them getting off on telling me that they're renegades, and that's about it. It's musical ************, that's what it is. It's in the exact same spirit as Right Said Fred telling me that he's sexy or 2Pac telling me that he's a bad mf. Why don't I just go watch Paris Hilton gazing into a mirror while commenting to herself how hot she is?
Screw that, man. The sad thing is that Rage is actually capable of some clever social commentary. Which makes it all the more disappointing to see them making such an egotistical self-congratulatory piece of fluff.
