I always found Sonic games felt a bit inconstant with the franchise as a whole. With each Sonic game it kind of feels as if they are re doing something or trying to start a fresh/ cleaning the slate so to speak. With Mario games even though there is the adventure type Mario games (Mario 64/ Mario Galaxys) or the old skool approach there still feels as if they fit together and they are going in a steady direction. But with Sonic games they feel as if they are taking side steps or trying to re invent everything all the time. This has nothing to do with Lost World or Generations or Unleashed! It almost feels as if they do not know the direction they truly want to go in with Sonic and just try random things all the time without trying to just fix the problems and keep going with what they have.

Now, I have a Gamecube and am thinking I may get a Wii U at some point, not now but when the price drops, if ever. Should I wait and buy this on the Wii U or just grab it now for the Gamecube?

@kashkropsntokes But even if they are using the image of not competing with both PS and Xbox in a way they are.... They are still competing with them even though they are not making a system with the same kind of spec!

@Rotondi The thing is in my mind it isn't about the console really it is about the games. As long as I can play a Mario or Zelda title I do not really care about the console itself. To me it is the games not the hardware!

@Nev3rtime @mr_gibberish But do you see what I mean though? For me it is not the fact that they keep these beloved franchises going and I do feel with these franchises are their great selling points but they have become too formulaic. The Wonderful 101 is great. I am pleased they made that and I would like to see much more like that. It feels what Nintendo does with every console is say, "Right we are going to Make a Super Mario title. Then after that we are going to make a..... Smash Bros title.... Then after that we are going to make, wait for it..... A Mario Kart title. Maybe then a, Metroid title. Then when the consoles ending it's life span we are going to hit you with....... A Zelda title!!" It is too much of a fixed routine they do with all their stuff... Why not have a Mario title then just focus on a good few years just creating new stuff... You see the new creation will keep the ones that keep re appearing from feeling just mundane and flat. There is no spark anymore!

So yeah it is not the franchises so much it is just the feel of that routine in which they make them. There feels there is no real surprise to Nintendo really. If they had all these franchises with a wash of new ones amongst them more it would bring some excitement back. But to me it feels too mundane and that losses appeal for me!

Right, not sure if I can really put into words what I mean here and please, do not take me the wrong way, I love Nintendo I really do. But for me what I think one of the problems is is Nintendo in their games line up over the years have become too unsurprising. I mean I have come to the point where by I know every Nintendo console that comes out there will be a Mario title (of course, that is obvious, it is their mascot flagship IP) a Mario Kart title, a Zelda title, a Smash Bros title and so on. I really do love these games, I mean, just the other week I went out and bought myself a 3DS so I can play Mario 3D Land. The last Mario Kart title I ever played was Mario Kart DS and I really did love that. With other consoles there is always franchises. I know for example Insomniac will at some stage create a new Ratchet but I think because of all those other franchises by different creators that come out I do not seem to mind so much. But with Nintendo it just seems just the same. If they made all these games amongst others as well on a frequent bases it wouldn't be so bad. But it is the same over and over like a fixed routine.
