US has a gun ownership culture. They also have a very high rate of gun deaths. The two things don't necessarily go hand in hand- Switzerland has high gun ownership with far, far fewer problems. However the gun death rate in the US needs to be addressed. This will probably require a number of measures, not just regulation.
That said, i can't see how arming schools will help matters. The main issue is that the type of people who would commit these sorts of crimes have easy access to they type of firepower that has no practical application in everyday life. Putting armed guards in schools won'y change that.
