Hi @kazeswen, you can read a more detailed response to feedback similar to this at the top of this thread, but the short of it is that we're going to be removing the fixed footer bar entirely soon. Thanks!

Hey all,

I've updated the OP to include my initial response to this thread, so as to make it more visible. Please check it out if you haven't already to learn about the changes we are making in the immediate future, following the Thanksgiving holiday, but know that we do hear your feedback and have already started work on these.

Thanks,

Hey all,

Thanks for posting about these ads here. This type of ad unit that automatically redirects you to the App Store or to another page is strictly prohibited by our rules, and we take these reports very seriously. I know that we took down a couple of ads that behaved this way the other day, and so this specific issue should be resolved.

That said, I'll convert this thread into a sticky for use in reporting this type of issue.

Thanks again!

Just to follow up here, this issue has been resolved as of last night, and upvotes and sorting by upvotes is now working as expected!

@aigis: Also, to add onto @wemmick's comments, I mentioned this earlier in the thread but we are removing the fixed footer bar to free up space on the page, as well as make some other adjustments to the layout to improve usability.

@elheber: Unfortunately, the fix we deployed for this on Thursday didn't fully fix this issue. However, we know what's wrong here and should have this fully resolved in the next day or so. Sorry for the delay, and thank you for your patience.

@pongley: @elheber: Thanks for your feedback! I've posted a bit more details in a different thread, but we will be making some adjustments based on what we've heard. Of particular note is that we will be removing the sticky bottom bar.

And as @wemmick mentioned above, we are committed to fixing the bugs you've pointed out, and should be taking care of them shortly.

Thanks!

Hey all,

Thanks for all the feedback, this has been super helpful!

As some of you have pointed out, these changes have been in the works for some time now--this has actually been how the newsreading experience has worked for signed out users since E3. After making a few tweaks, most notably the addition of comment upvoting (which will be fixed today, by the way!), we made the decision to release this to everyone.

As for why we've made these changes, what we're trying to do here is make it easier for our users to read articles by letting them transition seamlessly from one into the next. With this layout, we also wanted to reduce some of the clutter in and around the articles by removing the right column and the "skin" ads that box in the content, and adding in more whitespace. This type of newsreading experience is increasingly commonplace, and variations of it can be seen right now on sites such as ESPN, Time, and the AV Club.

That said, we hear you loud and clear, and we'll be making further adjustments based on your feedback in the immediate future:

  • The sticky footer bar that shows what other content is coming up next will be removed
  • The button to expand comments will be moved above the Yahoo unit, just below the large Upvote button to place more emphasis on them and reduce the chance to scroll past and miss them
  • The comments link at the top of the article will be changed so it expands the comments and moves you to them
  • Reply notifications will be fixed so they link correctly to comments
  • We will fix a bug that should remove the CSRF-related error reported by @mesome713

Thanks again for the feedback!
