@Stebsis @AggrandizedUser I managed it with tranqs and the stungun. No doubt it was a bitch to get through though.

@JustArtificial Aesthetically it was, no doubt, visually striking, but it wasn't revolutionary in terms of graphics.

@n1i2z3a4n5 Minor refinements don't take away from the fact that we've seen it all before. That's generally why remakes that only feature tweaks get similar scores to the original release. The exceptions are the remakes that feature overhauls in terms of graphics and gameplay like the Resident Evil remake for the gamecube.

@AggrandizedUser The way I like to play it is as a pacifist. A lot more challenging, and morally satisfying.

@AggrandizedUser @josh7845 But then it's ascribing to the narrative failure of telling and not showing. The whole point of the RPG elements of Deus Ex are so you can witness the consequences of your actions which further immerses you in the world. If I hadn't seen the hostages die or hadn't seen the disappointment of the SWAT members after that first mission, I would never have cared or felt bad. Showing, not telling, is the most effective way to express the narrative. That's why I think the slideshow felt so out of place to me. It broke my immersion because I couldn't see what the bloke voicing it over was talking about. Yes it was well written but that amounts to **** all for me if my immersion is broken. It may have been perfectly adequate for you, but I couldn't get past it. That's the beauty of subjectivity, everyone has a different opinion.

@AggrandizedUser @josh7845 I never said the gameplay wasn't great. The ending was just lazy as hell. Instead of presenting you real choices on how to conclude the game through the game's mechanics (rather like they did with Malik when the heli crashes in Hengsha) you are just given a number of buttons and a slideshow with a voice over that never give you the opportunity to witness the consequences of your actions like an RPG or any game should. I didn't find that satisfying at all. Also, like I said, the lower end graphics didn't bother me either, but it may bother other people who might not be able to look past it (like the reviewer for instance).

@AggrandizedUser While the game is visually striking with it's black-gold aesthetic, the graphics just aren't the best in the world. This may not be important to you (it certainly isn't to me) but it might be to this reviewer. It is his opinion after all. Also, the ending was just you going into a room and pushing a button on the ending machine to get the silly pictures with a voice over while you get very little closure.

@illBishop Personally I think pissing on hype is a good thing. It teaches you to lower your expectations. I expect everything to be shit until it proves itself otherwise. If it does happen to do that then I am pleasantly surprised. If it doesn't then I'm not disappointed because that's what I expected. It's one of the reasons why Spec Ops The Line turned out so good. Everyone expected it to be just another military shooter and yet it turned out to be a brilliant deconstruction of military shooters and showed us all how dickish we are for liking them.

@DarkAztaroth No doubt, but my point is that it isn't as big a leap as say PS2 to PS3, in terms of the results. Nothing about the next gen makes me think it's worth buying into it.

@illBishop @AgentMagenta Oh please. This is vanilla compared to Zero Punctuation. Just because someone criticises the industry doesn't mean they hate it. If anything, it shows they care because they want games to get better and nothing can get better if it isn't criticised first.
