For me Radiohead are the most overrated band in existence. I try and listen to all of the bands that get massive popularity, and actually maintain it for a long time, because I just think that if something has been good enough to have a massive following in its time and maintain it after, then there must be SOMETHING good about them right? I am not talking about the latest pop drivel at the moment, like JLS, Katy Perry and Bieber. Do you honestly think that in 5-10 years time/5 years after the stop making music anyone will really care or remember them? No, because they have good voices (well, some people think so, I certainly don't think Katy Perry would be where she is without her looks, her voice is horrible. I don't like the other pop girls like Rihanna or whatever, but they have vaguely decent voices, KP's is just horrid), but the musicianship and lyrical themes in their music is practically non existent in terms of quality. Nearly all the decent artists that people remember have had these, and that is why they are remembered, for a bit more than a one dimensional "talent". Anyway, back to Radiohead. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and most other bands that have popularity over several decades seem to have a lot of skill in most areas, whether I enjoy it or not (and I don't at all) Nirvana have some decent songs and Kurt was a DECENT but not great guitarist, as an example. To me Radiohead are just bland. I tried listening to some songs earlier after being recommended them by a friend with a similar music taste to me a few weeks ago, but it just washed over me like white noise. It was so bland and dull in my eyes, and no part particularly stood out. I expect that from the majority of pop music and indie/alternative rock, but for a band that has over 200 million plays on last fm, as well as an album ranked the top of all time I would expect to be able to pick out at least SOMETHING enjoyable/skillful about it, but I just couldn't. Anyway I think they are definitely the most overrated band I have ever heard. And if a band is STILL making albums why can they not be called modern?
