@RedWave247 @Zombie8814 Horror games allow you to defend yourself. Whether your successful or not doesnt matter. Just look at silent hill; if your being chased by someone or hunted, youd grab a brick or anything you can use as a weapon to temporarily incapacitate your pursuer.
Thats why I hated Shattered Memories; it was terrible. Im not a fighter but id pick up a blunt weapon to just buy myself some tie to daze my attacker.
@tom_cat_01 @fernandofan08 @david_angle The whole game is bleak then lol! Everyone murdering everyone to survive.
life isn't based on truth. its based on lies. Be it white lies from our parents, lies from our friends, lies from our loved ones, lies from our government. The one thing I do know is that if someone wanted to sacrifice my step son to save a bunch of people who hunted me, who tried to kill me or would kill me; there would be no way I would let that happen. Anyone who lays a finger on him would die by my hands.
Its a parents ending, because you dont get anything in life for being noble or a martyr, nobody cares about what you sacrifice they just want to reap in the rewards of others' loss. A parent would kill for their child.
It was a real world ending, not a fantasy ending where they find a crate of kool aid and live happy ever after. The game kept all its characters human to the end; Tess' sacrifice was noble, but meant nothing. She didn't die for a cause. If you hung around enough you killed all of those soldiers anyway.
Marlene thought she was being martyr, she wasn't. You kill her and thats it, shes just another dead woman amongst millions.
@tom_cat_01 @david_angle Its not a fantasy at all. Its not a bleak or dark or adult ending. Its an ending of what any man would do; protect his girl. Ellie see's him as a father, he see's her as a daughter.
It wasn't infected which killed Sarah. It was human beings. The people who enforced martial law, the people who tried to keep society and instead were at war with other humans and oppressing.
Fireflies, Government, Hunters. Why should Joel lose Ellie for those people? Why should a 14 year old girls be killed to save people who didn't deserve it? Why should he have to go through losing a daughter again?
It was a selfish decision that any man would make.Tess didn't die for nothing, she died showing the Fireflies' true colours; terrorists thinking they were doing right, just like the government was.
There was no fantasy in Joel's head, there was reality. With absolutely zero guarantee of any success, would you sacrifice the one person you have left in your life, to save a bunch of people who hunted you, oppressed you, tried to kill you? I wouldn't.
I would save her, go back to my brothers established and safe community, and live as normal a life as humanly possible. I dont see that as bleak, I see it as evolution within the game.
Its funny though. "Knack mindlessly punches his way through corridor after corridor of enemies" which is what you do in almost every FPS and fighting game. Ontop of that, 'you just punch, punch and punch again until you win' which I thought was the objective.
