@M3o5nster This sounds like something a Sony fanboy would say. There are plenty of good reasons to choose the Xbox One. And I'm an Xbox 360 players who is planning on switching to PS4. Stop confusing your opinions for some sort of objective judgment. There's very little difference between the two consoles at this point. The idea that one is clearly better than the other is ridiculous. And those of you who don't think Sony is capable of its own shenanigans don't seem to remember Sony's history. Rootkits, anyone?

Which polls? None that I've seen come even close to that, most of them have been online polls (not exactly reliable). I'm sure Sony has a bit of an edge at the moment, but 80% is bullshit.

@Patohua1 Sony fans haven't offered much of substance either, you know. At this point the consoles are virtually identical. The people I know who want an Xbox like the controller, a few of the exclusives, and are interested in the motion controls. In the end, they don't have to offer a convincing reason to you--it's their choice, based on their priorities.

By any standard, the Xbox One is a decent console. Does it meet most gamer's needs? Sure. Is it's emphasis on cable television line up with the current market? Probably not. I think Microsoft made a mistake with that. But anyone who thinks that the PS4 is going to be a substantially better gaming console is probably deluding themselves in the same way PS3 fanatics thought the marginally better theoretical performance of the PS3 was going to show up as superior visuals. Right now, the lower PS4 price and lack of motion control nonsense are pretty much the only advantages that I'm seeing.

I'm still more interested in exclusives, and I'm not seeing any that move me. So I'll still probably be picking up the PS4 unless something changes.

Of course, the real reason behind mass shootings is ... sometimes people go fucking crazy and kill people. Games have nothing to do with it. Neither do guns, or knives, or whatever tool they use. Some people are broken, and don't get the help they need, and the results are tragic. There's this overwhelming desire to blame someone or something, to make sense of it all. But not everything can be wrapped up so neatly. Rather than try to blame people or things for the actions of others, we ought to be trying to find ways of identifying those who might need help.

But it's easier to throw money at yet another study that will tell us what the hundreds of other studies have said--playing video games and violent behavior don't correlate.

I think she's got this just about right. Clearly gamers don't want smaller games, or less graphically-sophisticated games. So that means developers are going to have to find ways of making that content more quickly and efficiently.

The money simply isn't always there for big AAA games--and we've seen some devs disappear because they didn't meet expectations. Investors are looking for sure things because the market is shit. That makes devs look for established properties like COD. There is massive risk in new AAA properties, and when devs do take one on, they tend to stay within well-tread areas. Innovation tends to happen on the edges, not in the mainstream. It takes time for innovative ideas to filter back into AAA games.

It's good to know that someone over at Ubi seems to have a good sense of the current challenges in game development. It's not always clear that they do.

@XxXDarkness0XxX When I look at it, all I see Halo--the Bungie art design is all over it, and not nearly different enough for my taste. And aside from the first game, I don't particularly like Halo. And Borderlands ... meh. So I don't quite see it either, myself. But then Halo sells well, and I certainly understand why people like Borderlands. So I'll see what people think, but my impression is that it looks like same-old-stuff to me. But I'll reserve judgment until we see the finished game.

@Grimkillah The thing is, not every gamer is like you. And given sales history, there are a lot of gamers who like to play the same game with minor changes every year for years on end. So I think a lot of people would answer your question: yes. For all the complaining about COD, it's a sure bet for most game buyers--they know they're going to like it and play the hell out of it.

If he can't take the criticism that comes with being in a creative field, then maybe he should leave. You've got to have a thick skin. It's the internet--you catch shit no matter what you do. If the praise he got for making Fez wasn't enough to get him through it, nothing will.

Still, I expect the game to be back on in a few weeks once he goes back on his meds.

Sometimes I approach a game with achievements in mind, but I'm not a completionist so this doesn't bother me. I'm sure some die-hard completionists will be irritated when they learn that they've got more achievements to get. On the other hand, we already have a situation where DLC adds more potential points to be had.

This approach seems perfectly reasonable.
