@erMonezza Considering that they are really the only developer making these kinds of games, I'd say there's plenty of room for them. Their games may not be for everyone, but that's what the video game industry needs. Developers try too hard to make games for everyone, and often end up failing in making something unique or making something that any one kind of gamer finds exceptional.

If they weren't doing this, what would they be delivering? Games we can get from a dozen+ other developers? What good does that do for consumers?

They offer a less gameplay-orientated experience for those that want it. This is a rare approach to game development and is more than welcome in an industry with plenty of over-saturation across a variety of genres.

@hiphops_savior They weren't saying that the controls, core gameplay, etc... are the issue. They are saying that it would be ideal for all of those things to be present in a game with a NEW world and a NEW cast of characters. By rehashing the same characters from the same old franchises, they are turning off older Nintendo fans, seemingly as a means of ensuring that they can draw in new fans with characters and worlds that have been proven to be likable over the years.

What they should be doing is relying on their ability to not only deliver quality gameplay, but also to create even more likable characters and game worlds. That way, people that are tired of Link and Mario have refreshing new faces and universes, yet the games are still Nintendo-y and fun, and the younger gamers still get what'd they be getting from any Mario or Zelda game.

Nintendo has managed to consistently implement interesting new game mechanics, but has coupled them with old, tired characters and plot setups. As much as I love Mario, I want someone new. I'm not the person I was a decade or two ago. Saving Peach via collecting stars with your water-jetpack-thing and saving Peach via collecting stars by jumping through pictures are different I guess, but I'm still saving Peach... something I've been doing for a LONG... ASS... time.

@golden1elite Kevin has been at GS for like over a decade now, and has reviewed pretty much everything under the sun. MMOs are actually exactly what he's known for reviewing, at least they have been for the last few years. There's a difference between a lack of "polish" and bugs or issues that disrupt or worsen the experience of playing the game. For example, people randomly spawning two feet from me in PvP, or spawning in with less than full health are not matters of "polish" - those are game-breaking PROBLEMS for anyone interested in that part of the game.

Kevin also clearly states that the game IS fun and enjoyable. It would be wrong of him to rate this any higher than a 7.0, given the ridiculous amount of issues. I've never played an MMO that has been this buggy and sloppy-feeling at launch. You can't ignore blatant problems, even if the game is fun.

@hector530 This is Tom's entire point...

The fact that this exists everywhere doesn't justify it existing in this game, that just means it's more of a problem.

@joe_anony @gpm23 Where are you getting this whole "realism is in the mechanics" BS from? Regenerating health is unauthentic, bottom line. There is no way around that. The game claims to be authentic, but clearly the multiplayer is not if such exists in it.

@hector530 It completely clashes and contradicts with what the singleplayer supposedly stands for, and is simply not in line with the supposed "authentic" nature of the game. Futhermore, it stands as a pretty blatant glorification of war, armed violence and the killing of other people.

@hector530 A game could be authentic and very CoD-like without the tactical shooter nature of games like Ghost Recon.
