Im looking for a good RPG game. I enjoyed fable 2, Mass Effect, and especially Bioshock. Disliked Oblivion. If you could help me that would be great thanks.

I'm curious. May I ask why you disliked Oblivion?

At any rate you might enjoy Fallout 3, or you might not, depending on what you didn't like about Oblivion. I've played plenty of both, and I will say that there are many differences in the overall 'flow' of gameplay. Try renting the game.

I was going to post this in the Fallout 3/Borderlands forums but I figured they'd hate the comparison...

I've had Fallout 3 ever since it came out, but so far it hasn't grabbed my attention in the same way that Oblivion did, now that Borderlands has come out I'm wondering whether it's time to cut Fallout loose and move on?

To help you make the decision, with Fallout the main problem I had with it was its difficulty, and the fact that pretty much every time I had to travel somewhere I'd have to go through the subway system time and time again.

The only reason I draw the comparison between Borderlands and Fallout is that they are both set in a "post-apocalyptic wasteland" and are blends of FPS and RPG (though admittedly Fallout sticks more to the FPS side).

Fallout 3 has five difficulty levels (freely adjustable in the Game Options). If you're referring to going to places you've already been, fast travel is always an option, but if not ... yeah, I see your point. Try exploring the northern part of the map (get away from D.C. for a while) and see if that helps things feel less repetitive.

Perhaps the poll should have been entitled, "Pick your favorite Western RPG."

My favorite is Mass Effect, Fallout 3 close second. Though i didn't play Oblivion

I got around to buying Oblivion after I completed Fallout 3. Oblivion's story, in my view, wasn't as well-detailed as was that of Morrowind, but I enjoyed the former's sidequests and supplementary characters a lot more. Also, the combat is drastically improved over Morrowind, and there's an amazing amount of stuff to do, as is the case in all of Bethesda's RPGs that I've played (namely, the aforementioned three).

And yes I know Bioshock can't really be considered RPG, but I wanted to throw it in there as well :D

Pick your favorite between these 5 titles

Oh, now that's a tough question. I loved (and still love) Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and (what I played of) Bioshock to death. Picking one was very, very difficult. I haven't played the other two games, though.

Yeah, Borderlands is like a combination of Diablo and Halo, Fallout 3 is like Oblivion with guns.

Inasmuch as I can tell, the similarities end, and drastically so, once each game is established as an open-ended first-person/third-person action-RPG.

If pre-orders and game exchanging is available, I'd like to use the Best Buy B2G1 deal to get Modern Warfare 2 and Forza 3. I can't decide on the last game though, right now I'm debating between Halo ODST, Star Ocean 4, or maybe something else. Any advice? (BTW I'd rather get PC version of Borderlands which I'm pretty sure doesn't work with the B2G1 deal)

Will this offer still be in effect by the time Modern Warfare 2 comes out? What kinds of games are your favorites?

This offer is for this week, but if BB is doing pre-orders or game exchanges then I could probably get Modern Warfare 2 in on the deal. If thats the case then I need a third game, by now I'm shifting more towards Halo ODST, or maybe Tekken 6. I pretty much like all types of games, except maybe sports.

I just got a promotional email from Best Buy this morning. The buy-two-get-one-free offer does NOT extend to preorders. I am truly sorry.

Why don't you go buy a longer cable?

I'm trying so save money for borderlands.

Which, I take it, you're not going to be playing on Live, at least for the time being? (Oh, wait, are you going to be playing this split-screen, or what, sorry?) Anyway, if you're not going to be staying with your grandparents for too long, I think I'd just wait. Anyway, I can only think of a few games that received updates in disc form (usually Game of the Year Editions of games like Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, and Bethesda's RPGs Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion).

I just FM2 a bit boring, where you just keep going round and round the track trying to keep in line. In PGR3 on the other hand there was action, you had to kind of fight to get ahead and it just felt more lively. So have they actually made the FM3 gameplay a bit less realistic or something?

drg0nzo1
Those lines are there to help you find the apex of the turns and to tell you when to brake. But you are actually supposed to get to the front...not just stay in line with everyone lol. If you really disliked FM2 you probably won't get that much more out of FM3, it does seem to have more powerful assists....but i don't think that will really be a game changing addition for people that prefer arcade racers.

The game assists can be turned off, from what I understand.

Why are people comparing fallout 3 to borderlands? Because the atmosphere is sorta the same? These games are nothing alike. Borderalnds is mainly a shooter with some rpg elements and fallout 3 is a mix of both. People are saying that teh graphics in borderalnds "suck" because they aren't photo realistic, not every game has to try and have the best graphics. It's good to have a cartoony game every now and then.

Cloud567kar
Perhaps they liked Borderlands' non-celshaded look better. I can't say. At any rate people have compared the atmosphere, yes, and the idea of a first-person shooter with role-playing elements, yes. Except that Fallout 3 actually told a story and emphasized that as much as it emphasized combat (perhaps more so, considering how some players and reviewers complained about the game having clunky combat outside of the V.A.T.S. mode, a statement with which I only marginally agree). Borderlands, on the other hand, reminds me more of a first-person variant of Diablo -- the emphasis is on gathering items and growing your character, not on making a personal impact on the game world.
