@LordCrash88 @s_vv Reviews that are paid for and published by an income generating audience, do need to be fair.

Not being fair is performing a disservice to the developers, publishers, and audience concerned.

A review is NOT just about the reviewers opinion. That is, if the reviewer is acting as a responsible journalist for the purpose of audience benefit.

If it's just an opinion base puff piece it should not be called a review, and should not be posted as the only official review from a game site largely dedicated to providing reviews.

@Matt Ruffo I remember playing the old Ultima games on my BBC Micro.

They were all the same. Same style of gameplay. Same style of graphics. Nothing really new. But they were all great (for the time).

Of course Origin uses the same elements, artefacts, gameplay, mood, settings, environment as City. How could the developers possibly spend another $100 million recreating what they've already spent years perfecting.

Sure. If Origins had a completely different art style, or new mechanics it could have been a much more original game - but then it could have also bankrupted the developers if it didn't work out.

I think reviewers need to be realistic.

Is it ideal that Origins is more of the same? No. But then that's just the reality of the economics of development. And please, LET"S NOT PRETEND that Origins is the only game to re-hash previous editions within a franchise. CoD, hello. Any sports and driving game ever, hellloooo. Mariooooo.

Please.

Be realistic.

Be consistent.

@LordCrash88 Fair point - and I was equally disappointed with Bioshock infinite - but then did Bioshock Infinite get low review scores? Not as far as I recall.

@LordCrash88 He's saying, quite clearly, that he thinks it's nonsense to overly criticise franchised sequels for lack of originality - and he's intimating that Gamespot will show inconsistency when it provides a high score to a franchises sequel, or otherwise unoriginal game a high score.

@Christian Quint Yep.

I guess every CoD ever, and every sports game ever, and every racing game ever should also get no more than 6/10 due to lack of originality. Right?

So too with Sim games. Strategy games. Any Mario game (except the first). The list goes on.

Repetitiveness and lack of originality are simply an aspect of games.

If you want true originality in your entertainment, don't play AAA games. Go watch movies from a diverse range of directors, or books from a diverse range of writers, or, at best, Indie games from a diverse range of independent developers.

Looking for originality in AAA games is always likely to lead to disapointment.

Carolyn, wake up. Please.

@LLYNCES

So many people have made the same points that you make, including me.

It's wrong to pretend that your viewpoint, our point, is irrelevant, or irrational.

It's not.

And it is most definitely not hate based.

Feedbackula fais, as others have said, to recognise the valid points that have been made and instead has chosen to only focus on the easily ridiculed complaints about the actual score, as opposed to the reasons for the score.

GS failed in the review.

They've failed in Feedbackula.

I see a trend.

@Max_160 That's right.

Even if R* are guilty of making a misogynist game, they are allowed to.

Sure you can get offended by that. You can get offended if they call purple flowers roses.

But don't make a big deal of it if you KNOW that your audience is completely accepting of the artisticly chosen approach.
