So for the last few weeks, I've heard an insane amount of hype over Pokemon X/Y. I'm 30 years old and I've never played a Pokemon game, but I am a huge RPG fan (as my currently playing list probably shows). I didn't play games much in jr high/high school when the series started and I always just chalked it up to be a kids series. Now seeing so many people on various forums, many in their 20s/30s/40s, so excited, I feel like I might be missing out. I don't really want to fork out for the money for it without knowing if I'd actually like it, so I figured I'd ask a few questions here.

I'm wondering if people who love the series can tell me why they love it and what's in it for a a 30 year old adult. Is it just a nostalgia thing for people who used to play it as a kid? Is the RPG aspect of the game good, or do most people just play for collecting/competitive multiplayer?

My hopes for the event

1.) MS shows a similar push to focus on games vs the whole "entertainment" box functionality. I just don't think most people are picking a console based on video streaming options or facebook integration. People already have smart TV's, smartphones, tablets, computers, Rokus, or other consoles that can already do that stuff, all without the need for premium subscriptions.

2.) We get a good look at the hardware specs and the OS. I'd love to see some features like how Sony showed the streaming stuff during the PS4 reveal.

3.) Hopefully some hints on games we can look forward to. I don't expect a lot of games to be shown, but maybe a sizzle reel with some logos and titles to get us excited for E3.

I've never really played point and click adventure games, but hearing so many people talk about them on blogs/podcasts recently i wanted to give some a try. What are some good adventure games I should look into?

I don't mind older games but I also don't care for the insane difficulty of games like Myst. I tried that as a kid and hated it.

AC3 really turned me off of the series. I was so pumped about the setting and the game ended up being a buggy piece of garbage.

People are so full of it. Everybody claims they are out if used games are blocked, games are $70, playing online costs money on PSN and so on. The fact is if you are a gamer, you'll play the games regardless.

I'm not reading thru three pages of this crap. Are there any actual rumors/leaks about what this "partnership" is?

Marketing spin blah blah blah...but as I've said in several threads tonight...the biggest thing I liked about the Sony presser was that it was mostly about the games/game developers and social stuff directly related to games. Even at E3 2012, I thought Sony's presser was by far the most game centric, eventhough none of them were great. It seems to me that they figured out the key to sucess for PS4 is focusing on games and gamers.

MS is pushing this whole entertainment box/casual aspect and unless we see a complete 180 marketing wise, I'm sure the same will hold true for Durango.

Nobody in the real world cares about ggdr5, they care about games and their buddies on XBL...

MS brings some big new franchises to the plate during the reveal and sony is toast.

tis all about the games ;)

You're just an MS delusional fanboy and your comments would only be "valid" in an area dubbed "system wars".

MS is rumored to make their next console with internet connection mandatory. Strike one.

Their are alledly assigning each disc to one console. Strike two.

They're continuing the XBL fees, which will likely increase, while partenering with the nickel n dime masters EA. Strike three.

Let's not forget that they're not known for exclusives and any "new IP's" are just that: New IP's. Properties that are essentially experiments with absolutely no fan base.

This will be MS last console. Say goodbye.

In the interest of being fair, PS4 had a lot of the same rumors about always online/no used games which ended up not being true.

Like the 3DS, once 3D Mario, Zelda HD, Mario Kart, and potentially Retro's new game drops Fall later this year, sales will rapidly increase. What we're going through right now with the media is exactly what we went through with 3DS in early to middle 2011.

The big difference is Nintendo has always completely dominated the portable space. Wii U already competes with 360/PS3 and this fall will also compete with PS4/Durango. You can even throw PC in the mix since they launched with a number of multiplats on PC as well. It's a much more competitive field.

I thought the concepts Sony showed for PS4 were awesome. Of course who can trust them, but if they follow thru, i think PS4 is going to be tough to beat. If anything, I'm  happy they seem to be marketing directly to gamers. I have a hard time beleiving MS will veer away from their casual/Kinect/apps emphasis over the past few years.
