In my view, promoting education about worldviews alternative to mainstream society is good because we should learn about each other on a regular basis. Censoring either side when both are civil is not the answer because it negates the natural process of conflict that is seen in the world. Nothing is learned by humanity if nothing is risked.
@csthomas888: You say something, there, that I am not so sure about as you are.
You said, "It got it's negative reviews from most people because of that departure, but taking a franchise and making it into a completely different genre earns a bad review in any game."
I disagree with this because Capcom brought Phoenix Wright to the fighting genre and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 can be fun.
You could look at the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy Tactics is a departure from the traditional Japanese style of role-playing games that compose the main series and it plays excellently. It is not simply that, either. Final Fantasy XI and XIV both started roughly, but became respected games.
Besides that, I am also not sure that you read Metacritic reviews because, if you did, you would see that there are, in fact, three critic reviews giving it 100 scores. GameSpot took a utilitarian approach with a score reflecting that the game might not be for everyone, so the best outcome is a score that all readers can accept. Further, an 85 out of 100 is a good score. Is GameSpot wrong as well?
I would say no because, to their credit, critics including GameSpot have frequently said that it is a fun experience, and they thought critically about it.
@csthomas888: As far as reviews, Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 has a Metacritic Score of 84 and a User Score of 7.5. Both of those are good scores. It is certainly true that Resident Evil 6 has a significantly lower set of scores.
One superior game, Resident Evil 4, and an excellent one, which is RE5, could be worth playing again probably more for entertainment purposes when under the control of past players than their original skill progression aspects. I would say that is more likely than altogether abandonment of these games.
Both are relevant, but I think that the professionals have an authority to determine the quality and grade of titles significantly more than regular players because they should have a specialized education to appreciate what we play.
It is not ancient history when Capcom announced that they would be focusing on previously existing titles in their brands and franchises for the foreseeable future. As they do, I hope for increased quality more than the grade of graphics or audio.
