@tobsesan: The original game has a lower Metacritic rating on PC than it does on the Xbox 360. The Ultimate Edition has a greater difference from the original as well. I have not played the original game on PC, but part of my hope is that it would come to Steam rather than games for Windows Live. Direct X has been in use by Microsoft for years, but the Vulkan API promises more efficient game processing.
I would be fine with a port of the original Gears of War onto PC with Xbox 360 quality online multiplayer. That is one of the best skill based games on that platform.
@Alucard_Prime: There is a common view that gaming reviews are relative. As Kierkegaard famously said, "Truth is subjectivity." However, I think this means that interpretation is subjective rather than the objective facts that interpretation comes from, first. Therefore, when Peter Brown mentions the poor quality shooting mechanics, I would think that the idea is first accepting them as the developers intended them.
Then, forming a personal argument comes based on that comes next. It could go a step further and be applied to contemporary times as he mentioned when mentioning how the characters are relatable of the characters and the lack of relation with the enemy combatants due to how they are applied to the game world.
Therefore, many criticisms about this game review are really criticisms about the nature of human proof being inference.
@Xirtahm: Yes, a 7 from GameSpot is a good game as well. However, not all review systems are the same or have the same amount of influence. I think most reasonable people would like fair measurements rather than equal results.
