@CDR_VIRUS @bowlingotter Thank you, but I think the petition is nonsense. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a review - it's happened to me plenty of times. It doesn't mean someone should be fired.

@YukoAsho @bowlingotter No, it means that I liked the game more than he did and shared my review. Gamespot would call that a "video reply." Is it supposed to mean more than that?

Damn. Seems like this game is rather divisive. Reviews across the 'net run the gamut.

There's nothing wrong with capturing at 720p/30fps. The file size difference will be much greater than any nominal quality degradation.

@quakke I'm well aware of the history behind the game as I was tasked with reviewing it as well for a different publication. You can't review a game based on "they'll probably patch it" or "well, it was a small team." You review a game based on its own merits at the time that you played it. I didn't score it as low as this reviewer did because I apparently felt that the positives carried more weight, but I certainly had the same gripes.

@alenth The checkpoints really are so, so bad though. It's maddening to hit a ridiculously difficult platforming sequence that sends you way back to a checkpoint, making you fight your way just to try it again. For all of the old-school flavor that was kept intact, it made no sense to ditch the Quicksave feature.

@Miroku32 Yes with some work you can improve it, but the optimization is still horrendous. Like the reviewer here, I have a system that's well beyond the recommended specs, and there were still rooms that dropped my fps WELL below 30. Just turning off bloom gave me a huge boost. "Optimization" means that it's not supposed to be up to the players to fix.

@quakke @Spinnerweb I don't agree. QUBE, Hard Reset, and Serious Sam 3: BFE were all good but not great games. I don't think ROTT deserves an 8 either, but a 5.5 feels a little harsh. The optimization issues and horrible checkpoint system really, really hurt it, but there's a lot of fun to be had regardless.

I agree that it has its issues, but I suppose I felt that the good parts carried a bit more weight:
