I've been playing the RE games since the original PS release and I've enjoyed every one in the main series. RE4 is a progression of the series in terms of gameplay and story. Really, how many more times could we have "Escaped from Raccoon City"? Code: Veronica had little to do with the first 3 games, but it's also a fantastic game. I think Capcom did a fantastic job expanding the story line while staying true to the core elements and fanbase.

You can argue that many series are kept alive merely to make money, but RE is NOT one of them. RE4 won more awards than all the previous games combined, I would certainly not call it "just another sequel". While very different from the other games in the series, it's easily the best in terms of control and presentation. I consider myself a pretty hardcore RE fan and I love RE4.

All that said, RE has never been more than action games with a horror theme. "Survival Horror" is a misnomer, they are action games with monsters and zombies. I never once felt truly scared when playing a RE game, "BOO!!" moments aside. Where the RE series excels is tension, you constantly are waiting for the next big BOO!! moment and wondering when the next boss fight will present itself. At this, the RE series has no equal.

When compared with other Survival Horror games like the Alone in the Dark series, or the Silent Hill series, there is much less focus on actual horror than there are BOO!! moments. When the first AitD game came out, it was like nothing else before it. It was genuinely frightening at the time. Silent Hill was and still is a truly disturbing game. It's writing and presentation are much more geared towards psychological horror than RE could ever hope to be.

Really, what makes the other games more RE than RE4? Nobody has really explained that yet. Does it have to be set in or around Raccoon City? Does your player need to control like a tank? Does it need pre-rendered, static backgrounds? The only people who have a right to say what RE is and isn't are it's developers. They created it, they have the right to take it where they feel it should go and I for one love where it's going.

must be in the eye of the beholder then, that or i just bought a really nice lcd. it's just like console fanboys, everybody is right.

my sony lcd displays perfect blacks, just as good as any high end plasma. same with color reproduction. no motion blur, no eye strain, no input lag.

but again, you'll be happy with either type. just stay away from those DLP sets....... ;)

Hacked the cable last night and it works like a charm. Full DD 5.1 from the 360 again. All 3 systems video are plugged directly into my TV. The PS3 and 360 through HDMI and the Wii through component cable. After hooking my auto switcher back up, I now get full DD 5.1 from the PS3 and 360. Using the optical out on the tv and running it through the swithcer, I also get Pro Logic from the Wii. I get TV only sound when I want it from the Wii and the 360, but the PS3 needs the receiver since it doesn't appear that you can run HDMI and Optical sound out from the PS3 at the same time. Not a big deal I guess.

Thanks to all those who helped!!

yeah, it won't work that way unfortunately. i can guarantee the speaker in the sub box is only rated to handle the power of the internal amp it uses. any added wattage will blow the speaker. if it was free, it's always worth a shot though. :)

We'll have to agree to disagree.

There is no market for smaller plasma monitors since LCD has cornered the market. Even folks who use their TV as a computer monitor are mostly buying LCD. LCD sales are also better than Plasma. Now With OLED technology coming out, LCD has an even bigger advantage over Plasma.

Any new, reputable LCD is free from all the traditional LCD issues, most high end Plasmas are as well, but It's been said by many an expert, LCD is the best way to display digital signals. They both have their drawbacks and advantages, but after much research, I went with LCD.

I have been through 3 LCD sets, only replacing the previous set with a larger set and have yet to go with a plasma. For what I use it for, gaming and DVD, on a digital signal, LCD is simply a better display.

Like I said, nothing against Plasma, I'd never tell someone they bought the wrong TV, but LCD is just better for gaming.

yeah, I have a fancy Audio Authority HD/DD 5.1 splitter in my closet I can break out.

the problem with the xbox 360 is that unless you buy their $50 hdmi cable, you can't have hdmi and dd 5.1 at the same time. the hdmi port is too close to the other port to use the standard hd cable for sound and hdmi for video. splitting the case open on the factory cable gives you enough room to run both seperate cables at the same time.
