Also have you considered plugging in your computer to the VGA port. There isn't always much difference.friedweasel

I have but I can tell the difference on my current monitor. On my other LCD I cannot.

is it a dvi/vga cable or if u dnt wana spend alot of money get a vga /dvi adaptorNeo_revolution7

The cable for the PS3 is a HDMI to DVI Cable.

I was to convert the VGA port on the back on my monitor to a DVI port. Using the adapater but I am unsure if it will work or not.

So my Samsung 226BW has a VGA and DVI port on the back.

Currently I have the DVI port used.

I bought a HDMI to DVI cable for my PS3. The only slot I have open is the VGA port.

I was curious if a vga adapter would plug into the back of the monitor turning it into a DVI port I guess is what I am saying so that I can in my PS3 and can switch from my PS3 to PC easily

As you can see with this I am a complete noob.

So why couldn't Sony Release a cable that would make it easier. I'm sorry that my monitor (Samsung 226BW) Doesn't have an HDMI port.

The 360 at least had a cable that plugged right into the monitor (VGA) and ALSO had a way to plug in your PC speakers.

I love my PS3 don't get me wrong but that was a bad move. I don't want to have to spend $1,000 to $2,000 for a good HDTV. I would rather use my existing monitor to play on. But at this point I might as well use my POS 420p TV. I prefer not to have to spend alot of money to get this thing working on my monitor.

So I have bought sony's little RGB/RY Cables "Component AV Cable"

My 8800GTS Came with a RGB adapter. So I tried plugging it into my PC and I have no display at all.

Anyway to fix this?

I went out and bought an HDMI to DVI cable so I could plug in the HDMI to the back of the PS3 and the DVI to my video card. Doesn't work.

It will work when I plug it into my monitor (directly) but I want to not have to unplug my monitor to plug in the PS3.

Anything I can do?

[QUOTE="baddogjmh"]which one should i be looking at if i was going to go that route? one that connects a tv to a cable box or is there a certain one?sportwarrior

I'm not sure what you're asking... HDMI cables should all be pretty similar (some are better quality than others) and you just need an hdmi-dvi adaptor.

Also, do you have sound sorted out? Because once you adapt HDMI through DVI you lose HDMI's capability of carrying sound. You'll need a seperate set of speakers for that.

That is the problem I am at now. The sound issue. I have an ok speaker setup connected through a REALLY old amp at least 18 years old. I would still like to be able to use them. Any way to still possibly be able to use them? My friends 360 had an ACTUAL cable from microsoft to do all of this. Now I am stuck
