So I have bought sony's little RGB/RY Cables "Component AV Cable"

My 8800GTS Came with a RGB adapter. So I tried plugging it into my PC and I have no display at all.

Anyway to fix this?

I went out and bought an HDMI to DVI cable so I could plug in the HDMI to the back of the PS3 and the DVI to my video card. Doesn't work.

It will work when I plug it into my monitor (directly) but I want to not have to unplug my monitor to plug in the PS3.

Anything I can do?

*hint*

Video cards are output devices. Monitor ports are used for video inputs. TV tuner cards.

*end hint*

what are you trying to do? Are you trying to plug you ps3 video output directly into the computer? No can do hombre, you need whats called a KVM switch so you can use multiple systems with one monitor.

As you can see with this I am a complete noob.

So why couldn't Sony Release a cable that would make it easier. I'm sorry that my monitor (Samsung 226BW) Doesn't have an HDMI port.

The 360 at least had a cable that plugged right into the monitor (VGA) and ALSO had a way to plug in your PC speakers.

I love my PS3 don't get me wrong but that was a bad move. I don't want to have to spend $1,000 to $2,000 for a good HDTV. I would rather use my existing monitor to play on. But at this point I might as well use my POS 420p TV. I prefer not to have to spend alot of money to get this thing working on my monitor.

There is always the option to buy a compnoent to scart adapter and a scart to RGB or DVI-I adapter and use them in series, but i am unsure what kind iof quality you will get out of that.

here are some HDMI to DVI cables that you can use.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=1023

this will only set you back 6 bucks and probably the best option

Here's a few words of warning on this one.

check if your monitor support the 720p resoultion natively, If not, the cable trick would not work (HDCP is not needed here as you are not going for 1080p rez).

If the cable trick does not work. A few more option is to use a converter that can convert component to VGA/DVI, you should be able to find those convertor boxes online but most of them would set u back a few hundred bucks, there may be cheaper ones that can do 720p, but as i don't use them myself....

The last option is to go with TV tuner card that will take composite, component, and some of them even will allow HD inputs (ATI All in Wonder HD for example). The option usually would be less expansive as the convertor box, but you will most likely run into problem with video delay which may be fixable depending on which TV turner card you have and which viewer you use. Overall, this is the least favoriable option.
