I would like to say I am amazed that an American company just censored their American game trailer worldwide because China was offended that a second of footage from Tiananmen Square was in it. Unfortunately, I can't.

Yeah, if my mother punished me in 2020 the way she would have punished me in 1992 for spending even a fraction of that amount without her consent chances are she would go to jail.

@johnny0779: Who knows what will happen. Personally, I think the movie already has enough problems without the Disney+ release. For example, they took Li Shang out of the movie because they were worried about going against Me Too with Mulan having a relationship with her CO, and a lot of people are pissed.

@johnny0779: I get it free because I have Verizon, but I can see why people would be pissed. I'd rather them just release it on VOD rather than making current customers pay extra to view it.

Now I'm wondering if Warner Bros. is watching and may end up pulling some similar move for WW1984 on HBO Max.

@Atzenkiller: I'm not too worried about what Vice is going to say since I've actually served and spent some time as a recruiter as well. The fact of the matter is while some standards may get lowered from time to time depending upon the recruiting mission versus the number of people being admitted, there are many other standards that will remain high. Certain criminal charges can get waived, and others cannot. Many medical conditions will keep you out permanently. From personal experience, I talked to a lot of people that came to the military as a last resort, only to find out that they could join either and it was usually their record that was keeping them out, or they had too many kids. A few others couldn't pass the ASVAB and after they failed multiple times they just gave up.

@texasgoldrush: Times change, so recruitment methods have to change too. Phone calls aren't nearly effective and many recruits are in the age group that is more likely to be involved in video games and social media. If you take it as propaganda you have the right to ignore it.

And this is a blunder for AOC because despite having a Democratic majority in the House, it still failed by a large margin. That tells many of us that her colleagues are smart enough to know that the military is important and needs all of the legal tools at their disposal to get willingprospects to consider serving.

What would you rather happen, we stop using social media and games, and go back to the draft instead? Assuming you are eligible to serve, doesn't it make you feel better that you don't have to serve if you don't want to?

@texasgoldrush: I know you think AOC can do no wrong, but this was a blunder on her part. Recruiting has to evolve with the times, in the past recruiters used phones to call leads and in the present, they use social media.

What does she think will happen if the military can no longer meet their recruiting missions, the military will go away? Nope, we still need a military whether they want one or not.

As for the USMC, they are a much smaller branch with a different culture than the Army and Air Force.

@Barighm: It's not the military's job to help you lose weight, and if you are overweight you probably won't keep up with most of the training anyway. True, some overweight people are in better shape than others, but they are going by the statistics.

Not to mention there's the whole situation with some equipment not being able to fit if you are too far overweight. If you become overweight while you are already in, they will give you a certain amount of time to lose it before they kick you out.

@Atzenkiller: The problem with your conclusion is that the military already disqualifies a large number of American youth due to many medical and legal issues. Felony convictions, mental health issues, being overweight, and being a high school dropout without a GED are just four of many reasons you could be denied entry.

If they would take anybody that was willing like you say, they wouldn't even need to advertise as much because with an estimated four million new 18-year olds this year, there would be plenty to choose from to meet their annual mission (the Army's mission last year was around 70,000 new recruits, for example).

That's the great thing about an all-volunteer military, if you feel that you are too smart to "fall for" their recruiting tactics then, by all means, let the so-called dummies join in your place so you don't have to if you are able but not willing.

It's almost like she doesn't realize that we've had an all-volunteer military since the 70s and as technology advances, so will methods to recruit for that all-volunteer military advance.
