Murlow: I have a question for you.

What do you see as a better fan: A person who lives in the city a team is located, but only ever cares when they are winning?
Or a person who lives elsewhere, has been a fan for many years, and continues to do so through the good and the bad?

Personally, I would rather see someone that's a loyal, diehard fan, yet not from the same area, than a fair weather fan who is from the same city as the team.

[QUOTE="murlow12"][QUOTE="ksmooches"]

[QUOTE="murlow12"][QUOTE="squitsquat"]you know EA doesnt care what you want in their gamesksmooches

Of course not, b/c we keep buying them anyway. The games are fun, but they are going to continue making the least product that makes the most money. They've found a winning formula and it makes sense for them to stick with it.

That is until someone else steps in and decides to make a game of equal or better quality...cough cough2ksports cough...you see what's happening in basketball, the same can happen with football when EA's license runs out...but I didn't think that you could buy a college license for a sport though...wonder why 2ksports hasn't made their own NCAA football game

I guess the market isn't big enough. More people must buy Madden.

It's because everyone has to buy Madden, they bought all the rights, but when nfl 2k5 came out, a lot of people decided to jump on that bandwagon which is what scared EA into buying the nfl license and the counter action of 2k buying the MLB license

First, EA wasn't scared into buying the NFL rights. The NFL started shopping the rights around. So EA bought the rights. If EA didn't, 2k would have.

Secondly, 2k can't make their own NCAA football game because they can't. EA has the rights to NCAA football.

And thirdly, NCAA 09 should definitely have better creation options. I would like to see a Create-A-School, complete with uniform creation, stadium creation, and some sort of an upgrade system as you progress through Dynasty. And a revamped Create-A-Player. Better facial options, better uniform options, all that kind of stuff.

I would also like to see Stadium Pulse return. That was one of my favorite features from past NCAA games. Bring on the homefield advantage!

At first I thought this was a terrible trade by the Suns. But now I'm kind of seeing some potential in it.

When Marion's contract expires, he was going to be gone anyways. So might as well do something with him now. And Banks has just never fit in.

People are saying Shaq's too slow and won't fit in with the high tempo Suns. But they won't need him on the fast break. Look at how they played with Kurt Thomas on the floor. Shaq gets the rebound and everyone else breaks.

Also, Shaq will help tremendously with their half-court game. They can't double team him and Stoudamire. And with Nash distrributing, it's a scary looking offence.

Mind you, that all counts on a healthy Shaq.

Goodbye Heath. One of the best young actors in the business. And he was just blooming as an amazing talent.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lords of Dogtown yet. His performance in that was incredible!

Wow, this one's all over the place. Cancel my 2:00 appointment.

Okay, you're in Canada, which means that you're graded slightly more leniently. However, I don't approve of rooting for a team in a city you only lived in for 1 year. And I don't know if it's a coincidence that the D'Backs' most successful season in 7 years is the same year you start rooting for them. If you rooted for Nash b/c he's Canadian, then I see a couple problems there:

1)There is a Canadian team. If you live in Canada and your whole country only has 1 team, by default you should root for them (i.e., Toronto Blue Jays and Raptors).

2)I know there are only a few Canadians in the NBA, but why Steve Nash? My intuition tells me it's b/c he was the most successful Canadian. Why not Rick Fox of the Lakers or one of the other lesser-knowns?

It is also a violation of the rules to pick a favorite team based on their colors or cute horsey. There is no exception to this rule. In the future I hope your national pride grows into a healthy support of all Canadian teams.

Score: 5.5

Just giving some clarification here:

1) The city I lived in for one year is the only city I have ever lived in that has a major professional sports team.

2) I didn't even like baseball until this past year (while in Phoenix). At the start of the season, when I started watching, the Diamondbacks were predicted to be terrible.

3) I am from western Canada, and as such, don't like anything that has to do with eastern Canada. I don't mind the Raptors or Blue Jays, since they are the only Canadian teams, but I would never consider them close to favorites. If it helps, the Grizzlies were my favorites before they moved.

4) Nash is a scrawny white kid from Canada, like I was in high school. When he became my favorite, he was a bench player for the Mavs. Not exactly successful at the time.

5) Those colours happen to be the national colours of Canada, which cause an immediate association.

6) I was 5 years old. I liked horseys! They were the bestest aminals ever!

No comment? I'm a little disappointed Murlow.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada. Then I lived in Phoenix for the past year.

Favorite teams:

CFL: Saskatchewan Roughriders (reason should be fairly obvious)

NFL:Denver Broncos (as a wee lad back in the late 80s, I liked the horse in their logo)
I have a soft spot for the Cardinals as well, after living in Phoenix.

NBA: Phoenix Suns (Steve Nash, being a Canadian, has been my favorite player for many years, so I followed him when he signed with the Suns. Living in Phoenix further cemented this.)
I do have a soft spot for the Raptors as well, being the Canadian team, but I will cheer for the Suns whenever they play eachother.

NHL: Edmonton Oilers (I've liked the Oilers since the Gretzky days, and I now live in Edmonton.)
I also have soft spots for the Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Coyotes. I've liked the Canucks for many years since Markus Naslund is my favorite player. And The Coyotes since I lived there and went to a few games. It's going to be nice to watch the young group of guys on that team grow and improve into one of the best teams in the NHL in the next few years.

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks (I just started getting into baseball this past year. As a result, I went with the team in the city I was living in. I started going to games and had a jersey and hat long before anyone thought they even had a chance to make the playoffs.)

NCAA: Arizona State (I lived in Phoenix, went out to a few games. Both football and basketball.)

Soccer: Manchester United (When I first started getting into soccer around 1998, I started liking them because their colours are red and white, and they had one of the two players I'd heard of, that being Beckham. The other player was Del Piero, so I also like Juventus)

Hope all of that made sense.

Murlow:

So what you're saying is that as a Canadian, I can't have a favorite NFL team because I don't live where any are located?
I have always been a Denver Broncos fan, yet I have never been to Colorado.

I can somewhat understand your argument. You should cheer for the hometown team. Yet I also believe that you should always cheer for the first team you associated yourself with. In most cases, it will be the home team. But often times as a kid, people pick teams for different reasons. And for millions of people around the world, for various sports, there is no home team.

[QUOTE="DouglasBuffone"]He lives in the middle ages, not many people knew how to swim

For god's sake people did not even take baths in the middle agesAsasinator

true but any idiot can at least kick his legs ordog paddle. you dont really have to know how to swim to be able to save yourself from drowning.

Try telling that to the 3,308 people that died in unintentional drownings in 2004. http://0-www.cdc.gov.pugwash.lib.warwick.ac.uk/ncipc/factsheets/drown.htm

It does make sense that he can't swim. Like said before, people just didn't know how back then. Plus, he would have been incredibly weighed down by his clothing and gear.

I've seen people that don't know how to swim get in water over their heads. You can say that any idiot can kick their legs or dog paddle, but that's not what happens. They panic and flail their arms and legs in an attempt to keep their head above water. And every single time they have needed someone to pull them to safety, or they would have drowned.
