Part of what I find frustrating is there is a valid argument to be made about why Carolyn lowering her score because of the misogyny is the wrong approach to reviewing. Not an emotive one, not one which is based on spouting nonsense about political agenda or ignorant hate. However due to the ignorance, anger and lack of understanding of why it was also a perfectly valid criticism I am extremely reticent to make that case.
@shreddyz Not that I agree with multiple reviewers being a good idea but as for where you see it Famitsu's rating is out of 40, the sum of the score from a panel of four reviewers.
Great episode. Interesting anecdote as people often believe its anonymity that make people act up on the internet. That's a part of it but not all of it.
I find it so incredibly stupid that these idiots think that reviewers stating their opinions is a problem. The darkest day for Gamespot was the whole Kane and Lynch thing. Now Gamespot is one of the more trust worthy source of reviews.
Part of the problem is that when you are faced with a flood of stupid and ignorant comments there is nothing to do but walk away. A stupid and ignorant commenter faced with reasoned discussion can always spew their bile. An ignore user feature could be helpful.
However I do also feel that as the video suggests part of the problem lies with Gamespot itself. The selection of headlines are sometimes meant to prompt a reaction and frequently comments are based on the headline without reading the story. I also think Feedbackula in particular is/was problematic. It both rewarded bad behaviour with attention and suggested that mocking others was okay here. At the same time content like quoted for truth was taken away. Community spotlight features taken away. The encouragement to make the comment box a place for positive discourse gone.
