I guess I fall into the ludide category. I like a good story, and having motivation to do something is always good, but at the end of the day we are talking about "Video GAMES". Not "Video Books" or "Interactive Stories". Games. I don't recall feeling like Diablo could use a better story, and that is arguably one of the best games of all time. What was the story? Ancient Evil rising from its prison...go stop it. Pratchett is a story writer, you think she might be more on the side of telling a story rather than playing a game? Really? You think? Some of my friends are story writers and you know what they say when they play games like Bio Shock? How come all the narrative is told through a pane of glass, or a speaker, or on the other side of of some impassible debris? Not "Oh wow, what great story"! You want a good story? Read a book. I have a whole Blog post about this, but Metal Gear Solid is not much of a game. Its a mediocre movie that thats 10 hours to get through. A real story teller/film maker could have done that movie in 2 hours and it would have been better for it. You want to see a good movie? Go to the theater. We have lots of ways to tell a story, Movies = Story First Books = Story First Plays = Story First ....but only one way to make video games: Video Games = Game Play first

I have been playing it on a mediocre machine and as long I don't crank the graphics to the insane levels, it plays fine. You can even run it at low rez (800 x 600), so even if your machine isn't up to snuff, it should still be able to run...granted it wont look great, but the game play is good enough that looks should be secondary.
