@Verenti @Minasodrom Because, the data they gather gets used in technology in Forza's Drivatar (and yes, I know it's a rubbish name) which actually enables your 'profile' to play games for you by knowing your habits, style etc.- while you're off at work, your virtual self can be racing somebody in a different timezone, and all the points stats and achievement steps can be accumulated in your absence.
Plus, matchmaking ISN'T just fine as it is because it isn't granular enough, and it does force you to hang around. The XB1 matchmaking system has to be activated by you before you even begin the offline match. Nobody waits in a lobby - you tell the system to find a match, get on with something else and get notified when somebody turns up. Don't tell it to match make and it won't. And you don't 'stop' the game, you park it (it remains loaded in memory ready to snap back when you tell it to).
The design isn't flawed, in fact it sounds great. Your logic and the comment about the RROD are pretty flawed though.
@projectpat72988 @TwinStripeUK So why pay full price for a game that only lasts 10 hours? Because you didn't listen to all the reviews and previews that said '... and the game is way too short'? There's plenty of info out there on forthcoming games, so you've only yourself to blame in that respect. And perhaps, just perhaps, the reason that the game cost you so much is that the developers, publishers and retailers knew that for every new game they sold, it would be sold on and cut them out of the equation two to three times down the line?
The average 'pre-owned' reseller gets a FIFTY PERCENT markup on that game, as opposed to the 20% made by a retailer for a new game. On average, pre-owned games sold within 6 months are resold by these companies at only 25% less than full price, when they often paid the person who sold it 25% OF the full price. And in some cases, they've already made the 20% selling from new in the first place and will then take a cut from the next sale!
Don't you think if publishers had more control over that market, it would benefit us? Take Steam for example - AAA titles, often at half price compared to retail, because they don't have to pay anyone else a cut and don't have to pay the cost of physical media.
But you don't want that do you? You rather just keep making your own poor game purchase choices, making a loss selling it on and then blaming everyone except yourself for it. So good luck with that. 5 years down the line, when MS have reintroduced digital distribution and the games on XB1 cost a third of any other console, you can be bitter and bitch about that too; just another poor decision on your part.
@djroberts187 @TwinStripeUK Well, not used it myself but I've seen at least 3 articles where a journalist was asked to set up a profile and sign in and then navigate through the dashboard while two or three others waved, shouted things like 'xbox off' and 'xbox home' and jumped in front of him... XB1 ignored them and carried on doing what he told it too... I'll see if I can dig out a link...
@deadly_yank33 @AncientDozer @de-astroturfer Yeah, but it's cheaper and you still have the choice. We've already seen music head this way, so it WILL happen with games.
@00J Sh*t somebody ought to tell Valve before they go ahead and launch Steam, because they're going to go... oh, hold on, they've made a shedload of money with it and it's their primary earner. And they're launching their own console that's digital only too. In this century..
So, get your head out of the past and (more importantly) out of your *ss...
Gran Turismo 7 + DriveClub = rubbish + so bad they're giving it away
LittleBigPlanet 3 = not even planned yet!
RIME = small, cell shaded bloke runs around a Greek island and dies of boredom
Naughty Dog = no new projects announced
Sony Santa Monica = less than half the workforce they had two weeks ago
Knack = a game the Wii U will really miss
Deep Down = something I've never even heard of
PS Vita = The handheld they virtually have to give away now
I'll enjoy my Xbox One, my Kinect, my cloud, my AAA games
You enjoy your PS3.5, no camera, no Gaikai and your in-progress indie games... still, at least you'll get two free weeks of DriveClub until the PS+ runs out and you can always enjoy the Playroom... oh, wait, you haven't got the camera, have you?
