@lionheartssj1: Actually, no....

Check the EULA on the box or when you install the game - you own the disc and the box, but the software is leased.

It usually contains something along the lines of granting you '...a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable limited right and license to install and use the Software on compatible devices you own or control for your personal entertainment use...'

What he was actually saying was identical to what you wrote - "own", (as in 'you don't own it any more than you do a digital copy', and trying to illustrate that the only difference between "ownership" of a physical, digital or streamed copy is how you choose to consume it.

I know User Agreements are boring, but people really ought to start reading them...

Does anyone actually care? Genuine question - I bought Destiny 2 with the season pass and stopped playing it once it became clear Bungie had learned nothing after Destiny (in fact they almost seemed to forget some things), but I look at this and really can't be arsed to even try it.

He's looking very well for somebody Sony threw under the bus, and how nice for him to admit it was his fault for getting under the bus in the first place...

So, let's be honest, NMS was a sh*t-show on PS4 and an absolute travesty on PC but it's good to see that they've committed to trying to put it right (especially given that Sony picking up their ball and going home with it meant that they HAD to release it on Xbox in order to try and covers the costs). If that hadn't of happened, they might not have had the incentive to put the work in, but doing it in parallel with the port probably made it worthwhile.

As it's still sat on my PS4 (it was a physical copy I couldn't get a refund for), I'm going to fire it up and see if it really has changed as much as they say it has. Who knows, if they've done enough I might take the plunge on Xbox too.

We'll see...

@gamingdevil800: Platinum already got TWO fat paychecks up front... for Scalebound. They got paid for the rights to the IP and then got an advance three years in a row. They could have finished Scalebound when they were supposed to, but instead spent it all on finishing Nier:Automata and delayed Scalebound for over a year, by which time it was a shambling mess of a game.

If I paid a builder to build me a garage which he told me would take a month and a year later all he'd done was pile the building materials up on my drive and taken a sh*t on my front lawn, I'd want my f*ckin' money back too...

@blitxxx1981: The good part is that if they announce that they're removing a game you actually like and want to keep, you can buy it outright at up to 20% discount (and if it has DLC you can get up to 10% off that too).

So, as long as it's not a brand new (within the first 30 days of release) game, you can pay $1, and then get 20% off it by buying it straight away.

Worth it just to try out the new releases on the cheap... Oh, and if it's a 'Play Anywhere' title, you can also have the PC version too.

@Xylymphydyte: Oh it'll vary, but on average it'll be double in Australia.

In the UK DA2 is £14.99 (which is around $20.35 USD, so roughly in line). A quick trip to XE.COM later makes that just over $27 AUD. That's without local taxes, which would bring it up to roughly $30 AUD, give or take.

But that's just the basic tax. As a foreign company, any entity from outside Australia pays a higher rate, so there's other calculations to put in too.

$49.95 AUD IS high, but then again so is $39.99 USD for DA:I (which should be $20 for the basic version and $33 for deluxe).

A quick check for DA:O in the UK also shows it retailing for £14.99 ($27 AUD) but on the Aussie Xbox site it's $19.95 (just over £11)

As with all eCommerce, your mileage may vary...

EDIT Sorry, got carried away with the numbers, but the long and short is that the $49.95 is probably an error, because after conversion the first two games are actually CHEAPER than their US or UK counterparts. On the whole though, Aussie prices usually work out a lot more expensive.

@Xylymphydyte: No matter what else, you can't blame EA for the Australian price:

The main cause is higher PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) - a smaller population over a larger geographical area, means that prices in general are higher due to distribution costs. This shouldn't affect digital prices, but Aussie corporate tax also runs 30-50% higher than most other markets in the world. as such, if distributors DIDN'T leave the prices that high, nobody would buy physical copies and all the shops would go out of business. Also, Australians generally have a far higher minimum wage band than the rest of the gaming world (around double after conversion) due to the higher cost of living, so that AUS $49.95 is actually far closer to US $24.95 once you factor in taxation and higher cost of living.

Still a bump, but far less than you think considering corporate and personal tax and the cost of living are virtually double what they are elsewhere.

@lionheartssj1: Absolutely - DA2 was WAAAY too dumbed down for me. Didn't like the characters or the progression and the story was 'meh' to say the least.

'Origins' was a great timesink of a game, and the simple mechanic of playing the same storyline from different viewpoints was inspired for its time.
