Greetings,
I just finished ordering a whole bunch of stuff from NewEgg so that I can build my new computer. This will be my first time building a computer, but after looking at some videos, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it all myself.
Once I get the computer up and running, there's going to be a bunch of things that I'm going to have to do. Here is a little list that I have compiled:
Download FIREFOX
Download NO SCRIPT
Download CCLEANER
Download LATEST NVIDIA DRIVERS
Download SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY
Download AVAST! ANTIVIRUS
Download REGISTRY MECHANIC
Download ADOBE READER
Download ADOBE FLASH PLAYER
Download WINDOWS INSTALL CLEAN UP UTILITY
Download QUICKTIME PLAYER
Download VLC MEDIA PLAYER
Download XFIRE
What I'm wondering is if I'm missing anything important that I need to do once I power up my computer (besides installing the actual Operating System). If you're interested in seeing what I'm getting, you can check out my blog.
I'm also getting some games along with the PC. I'm getting Age of Conan, BioShock, Crysis, Mass Effect, and the Orange Box. I really wanted to get World in Conflict, but it wasn't in stock when I ordered the whole PC. What a shame.
I also learned that I apparently have to be static-free while I'm building the computer, so I decided to invest a whole $4 into an Anti-Static Wrist Strap. I'm not sure why static electricity destroys your computer - like how come a little shock to a chip will cause it to never work again? I'm also wondering why my computer isn't dead by now, because wouldn't a three-year-old computer have been shocked by now? Or does it not work while it's plugged in or something?
Last thing:
Is there anything in particular I need to be careful of when building the computer? Like, say, be extra super careful when installing X because of Y? Cause I really, really don't want to screw up in some way and have to return some of the things I ordered, or worse, not be able to return them because I screwed up so much.
Thanks in advance.
