@stan_boyd @therockcooking1 @bunchanumbers She wouldn't, but she also wouldn't be fighting a nigh immortal super man who has mowed down thousands of soldiers in his career...

@rarsonYou really should stop reading just the first sentence of my posts before you type your own. If you are going to respond, please address everything I had to say. My second response says "If Next Generation means two things, they have a duty to be clear so as to avoid misunderstandings such as these. If they are being intentionally vague simply for hypes sake, that would be par for the course with pretty much every major corporation out there, but it doesn't mean I have to like it." Basically you are quoting me out of context (and context IS important. 'Next Gen' when referring to video games means the next generation of consoles, and M$ knows that). As for the "I can't remember ever seeing..." quote, I also went on to say, "It would be wrong to say it never happens, but to say it is expected or in any way normal is false." Again, please read my full response and formulate one of your own that takes everything I have to say into account. You are making me repeat myself because you aren't paying attention or your ignoring pertinent information to make your own responses more impactful.

It's important to note too that the average person has no idea what tech is involved in something like this. Of course it's a projector but honestly, I never thought about how expensive the bulbs are, how much they cost to run for hours, etc. All the more reason M$ should have been up front about this being something way, way down the road. You can't show a seemingly finished product, use 'next gen consoles' in the description of the product, and then act surprised when people expect it to show up sometime during the 'next gen' (which, by the way, is 6-10 years. This thing could come out in 2020 and they wouldn't be liars, but it doesn't seem like they have plans to release it at all with the Xone).

@phbz @Tseng @LiquidGold @rarson Prototype is the right word (your English is excellent by the way :D ). And I understand your point. My issue is that they presented this info, showed us how it works, and yea there was the understanding that this wasn't going to be included at launch. However, when they say 'next gen' and they show something that looks like it could be in your living room right now, it comes as somewhat of a surprise when months later they tell us that it won't be available any time soon. I mean, we are talking YEARS, possibly into the next cycle of consoles, yet they are showing it off now....right before the release of their new console. The timing is suspect, I don't like being lied to by a company even if it is indirectly, but most importantly it was a feature that a lot of people were excited about. They should have done what all tech companies do: Release the info on the patent their holding and say that it is 'currently in development'. Showing us the finished product and telling us there is no way to actually use it is just bad business.

@LiquidGold @rarson @Tseng Hardly the same thing. The only difference between the boomerang and the dualshock 3 was it's appearance, the internals were the same. And the boomerang wasn't a potential selling point of the PS3, in fact there was a lot of backlash over the design.

@phbz @Tseng No, 'next gen' means NEXT gen. Future generations would be the appropriate term. If Next Generation means two things, they have a duty to be clear so as to avoid misunderstandings such as these. If they are being intentionally vague simply for hypes sake, that would be par for the course with pretty much every major corporation out there, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

@rarson @Tseng I suppose I should have said 'in this context'. And is that the most recent example you can think of? If it is, I think you might have partly proven my point. It would be wrong to say it never happens, but to say it is expected or in any way normal is false.

@phbz @Tseng "IllumiRoom envisions a next-generation gaming console with a projector that sits on your coffee table and surrounds your television with projected light,"

This is a quote from M$ in an article about the device on GS. I don't know about you, but when someone says 'next generation gaming console', I tend to think of the Xone/PS4, which are next gen consoles. And there is a big difference between a Mercedes prototype, and a prototype peripheral. I can't remember ever seeing a demo for a peripheral that is nowhere near consumer ready. Patents filed, yes. Theoretical articles or computer simulations on how devices in the future will work, yes. Both of those with the pretense that it is future tech we are talking about. Actually showing us what it does in real time and saying 'next gen' while showing it, only to report that it won't be available to buy is simply an attempt to hype up the Xone before launch.

@mingolo It's a good move not to release, yes, but why the hell would they show it in the first place? This is just another instance of M$ releasing info without doing market research or considering the future impact of what they are saying/showing. The issue isn't that it is gimmicky, the issue is they made it seem like this was a viable peripheral for next gen, only to turn around and say "Nope."
