Odd...

Download ATi Tool and run an artifact scan.

Wesker776

I downloaded the ATi Tool and am running an artifact scan now, but I don't actually understand what it's doing... Could someone tell me what an artifact is, exactly?

Okay; it would seem that when the system is idle, the GPU temperature is around 49 or 50ºC, and during a game it goes up to around 60ºC. It says that the "slowdown threshold" is 125ºC, but I have no idea what that means.

Those sound like screen artifacts.

Have you checked how hot your card was getting under load? I'm guessing that it would be heat related becuase it;s happening after playing for a while.

I did check how hot it was a few times - there was an increase in temperature, but I can't remember how dramatic. I'll get round to checking again soon. So, is my best option to get a new graphics card?

My computer is probably about 18 months old now. It's got 1GB of RAM, an AMD Athlon 3500+ Processor and a GeForce 7600 GS graphics card. I got Oblivion for it when I got the PC in the first place, and I could run the graphics at full-pelt and there'd be no problems. After about 6 months I started seeing what I can only describe as "small patches of red wiggly lines" appearing all over the screen after playing the game for about 20 minutes or so. I turned down the graphics options and it still happened. It also did it on loads of other games. I had no idea why it did it, so I just stopped bothering with the PC games. Now I thought I'd have a look at it and it still does the same thing. I'm not very technical with this sort of stuff, but I guessed it might be a hardware problem.

So, if anyone could help me by telling me why it might be doing this and how I might be able to fix it, I'd be really grateful.

Cheers.

I might avoid Assassin's Creed, if I were you. I'd pick Oblivion over it, because it's cheaper and has about 100 hours of gameplay in it, as opposed to the 10 that it took me to complete Assassin's Creed. Really, it was nowhere near as good as I expected.

I've got both. A 20GB hard drive and the smallest memory card available, just so as I can take my profile round my mates. The HDD came with the Xbox 360, and I got the card off eBay for less than five quid. Though to be honest, a good memory card (the 512MB one) would probably be enough for me - it all depends on what you're gonna play, really. You just won't be able to get much DLC for games (if you should want to). But, yeah, I reckon it just depends on what you're gonna use it for. The 512MB card is enough to store saved games and lots of profiles, plus it's portable.

I'm 18. I like FPS games like Halo, driving games and RPGs.

I guess so. I've just bought it. Not had much time to play on it yet, but seems pretty good so far. Foundry is fun on Forge and Rat's Nest and Standoff are good too.
