@digitaltiger The vast majority of new PhDs are going to women. A fucking PhD! It's not that women do not have opportunity, it's that they are choosing to have different careers.
@Cyber_Skaarj @Kickable The link between testosterone and male behavor is not fully understood, but I would wager that a lot of the so-called social constructs come from this. I'm about 50/50 nature vs. nurture. Sorry, but gender differences probably do not end at the neck.
@digitaltiger @Spokker Nothing wrong with learning a trade! I would just recommend going to a real junior college and not some vocational school that advertises during Povich.
@RoOhDiNi The top video game project on Kickstarter headed by a woman is about shaming the industry.
The top video game project on Kickstarter headed by a guy is about cutting out his own piece of the industry and giving the middle finger to the big publishers.
When a guy who trained all his life, self-taught or university-taught, is told to **** off by a big company, he has no one to blame, no one to advocate for him. The only thing he can do is take advantage of the platforms available to go around the traditional system.
Women, on the other hand, can blame it on sexism and paranoid fears about the patriarchy. They are more paranoid than gun nuts.
@Kickable @Cyber_Skaarj The 50/50 split is among anything that even resembles a game. Beyond that, there are still vastly different things men and women are attracted to when it comes to video games. Of all console gamers, 28% are female. Of that 28%, only about 20% are on Xbox 360 or PS3. The rest are on Wii.
@Alkpaz @Cyber_Skaarj @Feyweather Core and casual games are easily definable terms. There is some overlapbut it is not rocket science. The fighting game scene is going to have a more brutal atmosphere than the Words with Friends scene because the fighting game scene attracts men who have a passion for competition and do not have qualms about plain speaking and trash talk.
When Kotaku got a look at the raw fighting game culture, they threw a hissy fit. So what happens is that outsiders tell *them* that they must change. That scene is not my thing either, but if I wanted to experience a different kind of fighting game scene, I would start my own, not go into thiers and start ptting up new wallpaper. And if no one joined my group, I have no one to blame.
@TheHappyDrunk She could contact her, tell her she read the article and that she is looking for advice on how to break into the game industry in the future.
