You do know what the word joke means right? I mean you seem pretty smart, too smart to be getting all huffy puffy about what I clearly made sure you knew was a JOKE. I'm not getting "huffy puffy" at all. I'm merely stating the Matrix's (and other's related) claims that humanity is a virus are pretty much without merit. Of course you CAN draw comparisons with humans and viruses, but most of those comparisons are going to be worthless and meaningless outside of specific contexts (for example, using viruses as a mechanism for gene splicing in certain very specific contexts).
Humans AREN'T a virus, and we all share more in common with Adolf Hitler or Charles Manson than we share with ANY virus. The similarities really don't fit this particular discussion.
As far as you saying that it was a "joke", I mistakenly thought you were trying to say that evoking the Nazis was a joke, rather than you trying merely invoking Godwin's Law as a joke. Chalk that up to my lack of reading comprehension, as well as to the impersonality of internet discussion (wherein all nonverbal cues are lost). My mistake.

I never directly asserted humans are a virus. In the context of the film and it's setting the comparison is valid. Humans are very similar to a virus in that they both just (very simply put) reproduce and exhaust resources until they are all gone. In that sense the comparison is valid. Sure there are another million factors that may or may not line up, but in that simple sense we are very similar to a virus. We as humans are gonna reproduce and continue to use up resources until there is nothing left, just like a virus does in it's host. That is the basis of the comparison, and it is valid. Sure it may be overly simple, but it's a comparison in a movie. Not some conclusive report from a scientific journal.
