[QUOTE="FlawlessSeasons"]no, I have a hdmi port premium and I don't have the falcon, but it is different than the original, cus the power supply is different since it has only 2 prongs instead of three for the plug, but its not a 175W like the falcon.wezzybrems
ah ok...so are those improved hdmi premiums (but not yet falcons) pretty safe when it come to RROD?
They are calling that power supply gen 3, but it's not really any different internally than the other ones, they just got rid of the ground prong to save costs and since they probably didn't feel they needed it. BTW, not all Falcons are 175 W, there are a number of them that are 203 still, but if you see one that is 175, it is 100% a Falcon.
No, the HDMI premiums are not any safer when it comes to RRoD, they are using the Zephyr board that the launch Elites used, it has a few upgrades, and a layer of epoxy on the GPU and CPU to keep down RRoD failures caused by heat warpage, but it's a stopgap solution that didn't really work. I've seen 2 launch Elites die with RRoD, and I have a launch Elite that just had the horrible Hitachi disc drive fail on it after only 7 months, and now I'm sitting here on my 3rd week without a 360.
The Falcon is the only board that has finally got some parts on it to address some of the 360s reliablity concerns, and they also feature a much higher rate of using the BenQ and MS28 Toshiba drives which are much better units. Everything before Falcon is petty half assed attempts to fix the issue at best, Falcon atleast makes some serious strides, and hopefully Jasper will finish the job. Bottom line is, no 360 is at a low enough risk for RRoD, not yet, even Falcon's can fail.
