@rhysthepriest LOL, Fox News......weren't they the people who had said that Mass Effect was a sex simulator and had nicknamed it sexbox? Those people do get worked up a lot. has no one told them about tension and blood pressure.....
Excellent article with sharp reasoning. Reasons extremists and the moral police should listen to when they start harping about how video games are harming their kids. If you want to protect your kid, then make sure that he does not buy video-games meant for adults. Don't let your 12 year old buy GTA and then bellyache about how it's having a bad effect. Damn it, do the vegetarians out there ask the Deli owners to not keep meat just because they don't eat it? NO. They simply don't buy it from them. So if you think something is bad for your kid, don't let him buy it. Lot better than making mountains out of mole hill sized issues.
Didn't pre order this one considering the last few TW games. Have ordered it now, and can hardly wait. Looks like this might be the game that'll rekindle my love for the series.
@sieg6529 Mike Laidlaw and the rest of the bunch who have to appear in public for interviews attend weekly classes at the marketing dept (of EA, or Bioware...whoever are incharge). There they are taught sentences of upto ten or twenty words which they repeat whenever asked a question, occasionally rephrasing it to make it sound more convincing or new. And somehow I always feel that the questions at these interviews are not decided by the interviewers at all. @elfbait That's what happens when evil publishers like EA decide that they just want to milk the cow and don't care about the fans. DAO had a development period of what, 5-6 years (even 8 according to what I read quite a while back at joystiq.com) and then EA decides that the sequel needs to come out quick so that they can make money. And we have a game where companions have minimal dialogue and not once do they really speak about their past. I sorely missed the long winding talks I had with companions in DAO where they spoke about their past. It helped build attachment. It gave perspective to things. In DA2 most characters have even lesser dialogue than Sten.
Yeah! The world changed so visibly over the years....Kirkwall from the second act was absolutely different from the one in the third........Oh wait....no it was not! There wasn't even a single new dungeon map or even an aesthetic change in the buildings. Putting a few more NPCs and cardboard cutout models in a place does not make it a different world. Hell I don't know who they're trying to kid. Changing world my foot.
@ZakBlue That's just the thing the devs and publishers these days don't understand...that no amount of dynamic lighting and high resolution textures with other scenery porn makes a good game. The only people taken in by such frivolities are dolts who couldn't care less if they were playing an RPG or a FPS or a RTS game.
Cheers to the indie devs! They are the heroes of the industry. They are the people who represent the true gamer....not like the huge publishing houses for whom every bloody game is a commercial proposition. And I can't believe they didn't mention Mount and Blade here.
Awesome game that tells an awesome story? The Witcher. Also add to that KOTOR, COJ and the recent Xpack, Prototype and Warcraft III with Xpack. A good game that let's you roleplay and create a good story, Mount and Blade. I just don't know why're they saying that games don't make good stories.
