Yes, this ad could have been a bit disturbing. It ran specifically on Halloween, so the imagery was themed for the holiday.

Well, to be honest with you guys i dont mind the adds at the top from tech republic, there are actually some pretty good reads, but what ticked me off is that i had to sign up to read them.serbsta69

Articles that require registration generally should not show up in that space. This thread helpfully brought one that did to our attention. Thanks for that.

The rotation of links is auto-optimized for the GameSpot audience, which is why if you compare the rotation that's on TV.com or another CNET Networks site, it'll be different. It does seem that quite a few of the links are of interest to GameSpot users. Personally, I've clicked on quite a few tech-related articles that I wouldn't have noticed were it not for this.

Also, as a general note, we do not consider a link that promotes free CNET Networks content to be an "advertisement," as it is promoting our company's free content, not much differently than many other content promotions that run on our homepage. But since GameSpot is about games, not tech or business or what have you, it's our intention to keep non-game promotions to a minimum and to integrate them as cleanly into the site as possible.

The policy around the ad-free Total Access browsing experience is that it removes all standard rotating image and Flash-based ads from the site. The Total Access experience also generally tones down the sponsorship mentions that are sometimes integrated into special features, as much as practical.

GameSpot Complete was renamed to GameSpot Total Access in early 2006. There was no price change at the time and the major benefits all carried over, including the ad-free benefit.

Longtime GameSpot Complete subscribers enjoyed locked-in renewal prices for a number of years, which translated over time into much lower prices than new members. And some older monthly members were actually paying higher prices than new members.

Near the end of 2006, we announced that renewal prices would all be reset to current pricing. It's much less confusing for us and for users to have one set of prices.

Yes, this can come as a shock to subscribers whose renewal pricing is increasing. It's a good time to look at the current benefit list for each of the membership levels. If you'd prefer to downgrade your membership to the less-expensive GameSpot Plus subscription, you can contact Customer Support.

Please go to Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the previous version. If you have the tray app hidden, it's true that it's hard to exit from the older version of the Download Manager (corrected in current version).

We're looking into ways to smooth this transition in a point release, but the uninstall method should get you going today.

The Xbox hub page still exists and it's still linked to in the site footer.
