It is more than 7 pages(Alot of paper work:(). All I have to do is finish school, and then send in my application. I think im going to sign up for Infantry Soldier. Does anyone know what the Basic Training is like?

For basic you need to be in decent shape. If you can do 19 PROPER push-ups, 19 sit-ups in one minute, and 6 on a beep test and get 75 on the hand grip test you will have met the minimum requirements to make it. You will need to expect lots of physical activity obviously and be ready for them to mess with your mind. In total its 14 weeks. You said it would be cool to get sent to Quebec? It's not. No one like English speaking people there. At all. And as for the infantry thing...I would re-think it personally. About half of my platoon was infantry. Well there are about 4 that are still in the military. The rest voluntarily released because they couldn't hack it at soldier qualification. BUT a career in the CF is definately a good choice. I don't regret it at all but I'm a marine electrician in the Navy. :P

I could always try Ammunition Technician if I dont make the soldier qualification, but I doubt it.....I'm in great shape.

I know for a fact that most of the guys couldn't take the mental stress of it. So as long as you are mentally ready for the challenge you'll have no problem with whatever you choose, even infantry. Just keep it together mentally. And SQ is for anyone going Army/Air Force just so you know. :)

1) Is there a way I can be stationed ONLY in base duites? Like not having to be thrust into combat zones? I don't want to be a medic, but a DOCTOR

GetEnTheKitchen

If you want to use the militaries money, you better be prepared to do what they say you have to do. No choosing where you want to be stationed.

Actually there is. All he has to do is see the career manager and they'll work with him. We are so short on people that we usually get our way.

[QUOTE="ReaperV7"]I think you have to be a medic in order to become a doctor in the army :? argetlam00

Really? A doctor and a medic or 2 VERY different things...I don't see why you would need that.

well isnt a medic a student doctor in the army?

A medic is a SOLDIER, who is given basic first aid training to keep people alive long enough until a doctor can see them...Its pretty much a paramedic.

ohhh...that sounds tough ...you up for something like that?

Well yes, as long as I stay in the bases. I'd rather take a lown then risk my life patrolling an area full of nutcases that would like nothing better to put a bullet through my head.

Well, I just got out of basic about a month ago so here goes nothing. There was a guy in my platoon who wanted the exact same thing as you. Basically he's doing that. You still have to do SQ(soldier qualification) which will just get you ready for the battlefield. Everyone in the army/airforce has to do it. Even the clerks. But I know that he's becoming a doctor once all his training is done. Basic isn't that hard. Just make sure you are in shape, stick with it, don't give up because all it is is a test of your mental strength with obviously doing very physical things. Anyone can do it. It's all about how bad you want the job.
