Hey guys, just wanted to inquire about these video cards. Following this review:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/37286-amd-radeon-hd-6870-hd-6850-review-21.html

It seems like the 768mb GTX 460 is stronger/equal to the 6850 while playing at 1920x1080 resolution (which is what I play at) or below. Can anyone explain why this is? All the other games reviewed have the 6850 having stronger FPS than the 460 except SC2, which is and will be one of my most heavily played games.

I have the option of getting the EVGA GTX 460 768mb at $165 Canadian, vs an XFX 6850 at $200, which is a pretty significant price difference.

Could it be that the drivers haven't been optimized or something? I'd really like to get the 6850, but when the 460 is $35 cheaper and plays SC2 at the same performance, I'm confused at what to do.

I might go the raid route, or just save up for an SSD instead. Thanks for your response =)

I've been thinking about upgrading my Samsung Spinpoint T Series HD601LJ to a WD Caviar Black drive. Just wondering if I could get advice as to whether I'd see noticible performance upgrades in my daily application use (typical apps + gaming).

This is the hard drive I'm looking to get:

This is my current one:

Just for anyone who cares, I went ahead and got myself an XFX 5770. I originally wasn't going to spend this much on a new video card replacement, but the 4850 was sold out. And I figured since I was spending over budget already, I might as well push a little further and get the 5770 that's much faster than the 5750.

Anyway, thanks again for the replies!

Thanks for the replies guys. I know that the 5770 would be absolutely perfect for me, but I'm not sure if I want to slap down $180 w/tax on a video card. I'll certainly think about it though. Again, appreciate the suggestions :)

The Razer Deathadder is an incredible mouse. Been using it for the last 4 months, and the performance/feel is top notch.

There's a pretty nice deal for the card at $80 Canadian. I'm debating between this card and a 5750, which costs a good $50 or so more. Just wondering if the difference in performance would be worth the cost. I play at 1920x1080 resolution, so I'm rather worried that the 4850's 512 mb ram would be holding my performance back quite a bit, compared to the 5750's 1 gb.

Here's the link to the 4850:

Same thing happens to me. Sometimes, the computer will "snap out of it" and become usable again.

I suspect it's the HDD going idle or something, but nothing I've done has solved the issue.

Hey guys, I've been looking at two 5750 cards, from XFS and Powercolor. Just wanted to get some insight on which would be the better buy in terms of build quality/fan noise, etc.

Powercolor: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=48965&vpn=AX5750%201GBD5-H&manufacture=PowerColor

XFX: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=44933&vpn=HD575XZNFC&manufacture=XFX

Thanks for any help you guys can provide :)

I've done pretty extensive price checks/performance reports, and this seems to be the video card that offers sufficient performance for its price (the 5770 is much better, but also a good $40 more from where I can purchase from).

However, my question is whether there are future releases from Nvidia/ATI on the horizon that I should be aware of. If I can hold off on purchasing the card for a month, and something newer comes out, I'd rather do that. Been burned a couple times where products release right after my purchase, offering better performance for equal pricing.

Thanks for any help and advice you guys can offer :)
